When I left work last night, it was still light and I could hear birds chirruping in the branches all around me, even in the middle of the city. It felt like spring was truly in the air, and it got me thinking about breathing some new-season freshness into my home.
There are some beautiful spring-like pastel shades around at the moment – the colours of delicate blossoms, blue skies and eggshells. My favourites have a dusty, powdery nature to them, so they don’t look overly feminine or flouncy. They work brilliantly against crisp whites and greys, particularly when a few metallic accents are added into the mix, so they’re easy to incorporate into existing schemes.
The Scandinavians seem to do contemporary pastels especially well, and I love the spring 2015 range from Danish brand Bloomingville, pictured above and below. You’ll find a list of their worldwide stockists, including some based in the UK, on their website.
I also have my eye on the new Era rocking chair from Normann Copenhagen (buy online) and the DLM side table by HAY (available online or at their UK store in Bath). Both blend strong lines and soft colours to striking effect, and come in a range of shades.
For a more subtle dash of spring, I love the fantastic selection of Scandinavian homewares at UK-based Att Pynta, including these vases inspired by organic shapes. Rowen & Wren also stocks some beautiful Scandi-style pieces such as the tableware below.
What about you? How would you introduce spring colours into your home?
