I feel very lucky to live in a part of the world with defined seasons, and I love watching the landscape change around me as the months roll on. But I think this time of year is perhaps my favourite of all: branches sagging with fruit, swathes of flowers along verges and hedgerows, the scent of wild garlic lingering in the air… There’s something particularly magical about the golden evening light, and I wanted to share a few photos which I snapped last weekend during a stay at my childhood home in Derbyshire. Last time I visited the area it was hidden under a blanket of snow; this time I arrived just as the sun was beginning to drop, casting a warm glow over the fields which surround my parents’ house. There was no-one else around, and the only sounds were birdsong, the breeze ruffling the grass, and the gentle swishing of horses’ tails. Just for an instant I felt as if I’d swapped daily life for the long, lazy days of childhood summers; a fleeting but very special moment after the recent rain.

Abi, these photos are beautiful. We keep having to drive to Sheffield from Manchester and I’m falling more and more in love with Derbyshire every time! You’re very lucky to have grown up in such a lovely spot 🙂 xx

Thanks Ffion! Yes it is a lovely spot – though I don’t think I appreciated it as much as I do now when I was growing up! It’s always nice to escape the city and head back there for a few days x
