Following last week’s top tips from Copenhagen (one of my all-time favourite cities), I want to share a few snaps of the beautifully designed hotel we stayed at during our recent trip: SP34.
This place is packed with eye-candy for anyone interested in interiors: art-filled communal areas, mid-century classics throughout, and a few chic industrial touches (polished concrete, exposed pipework, brass lamps) dotted here and there. We even found a prototype bicycle on display in the lobby (this is Denmark, after all!).
The bedrooms all share the same simple but striking aesthetic: iron-grey walls, low-hanging smoked-glass lighting, mounds of pristine white linen, and curved headboards with funky leather cushions that were fashioned from salvaged chair backs (as well as some of the best ‘Do Not Disturb’ signs I’ve come across!). Ours had arched windows looking out over the street, which brought in plenty of afternoon sunshine and allowed us to peek nosily into the apartments opposite.
Downstairs are two restaurants: the rather cheekily named Cocks & Cows (which stands for ‘cocktails and burgers’, apparently) and Work In Progress, where we enjoyed one of the tastiest meals we’ve had in Copenhagen to date – a five-course tapas feast with fresh Scandinavian ingredients and wine pairings to match. There’s also a sail-shaded roof terrace for lazy summer evenings, and a contemporary fireplace for dark Danish winters.
The hotel’s location is pretty hard to beat, too – on a narrow street in the gently bohemian Latin Quarter, bang in the centre of town and only a short stroll from City Hall and the famous Tivoli gardens. We could amble to most sights and shops within 20 minutes, and the airport was only a 15-minute hop via the metro from nearby Nørreport.
Best of all, though, was the daily wine hour from 5-6pm, when all guests are treated to a free tipple in the bar. It was the perfect start to our evenings, and we had huge fun trying out the various seating nooks – elevated bench seats, cosy armchairs, sheepskin-strewn banquettes – as we sipped our drinks. Free wine is a guaranteed way to my heart, and I’m sure we’ll be returning for another stay at Hotel SP34 soon…!
