My boyfriend and I had been planning to visit Dyrham Park, a 17th-century National Trust estate that sprawls across a hillside halfway between Bristol and Bath, for years. Last Sunday we awoke to crisp, clear skies and a day without plans – the perfect opportunity.
It was a magical place for a walk, with a herd of fallow deer and views stretching for miles in every direction; we could even see the peaks of South Wales glinting on the horizon. Wrapped in blanket-like scarves against the blustery wind, we spent several happy hours ambling around the vast park, accompanied by birds swooping overhead and occasional flurries of snow. We found ice-covered ponds, clambered over peeling tree trunks, and watched as young bucks clacked antlers in graceful, dance-like play fights. A wonderful winter’s afternoon!
