Simple autumn styling with Georg Jensen’s ‘Tunes’ collection

I always love bringing a bit of seasonal nature into my home, and today I want to share some inspiration for simple autumn styling using the gorgeous ‘Tunes’ collection from Georg Jensen.

Created by Swedish designer Monica Förster and first launched in 2018, ‘Tunes’ originally consisted of a candelabra and two sizes of candlestick, all featuring integrated trays that can be filled with nibbles or adorned with flowers, foliage and decorative objects. They’ve now been joined by a tealight holder, a pillar-candle holder and a bowl, forming a beautiful collection that can be used in numerous different ways.

I actually met Monica on a visit to Georg Jensen’s Copenhagen HQ just before the collection was unveiled a couple of years ago, so I got the opportunity to hear first-hand about the story behind it. I was intrigued to learn that the starting point for her designs is always the function of the objects in question; it’s only once she has a clear understanding of this that she moves on to consider form and detail, ensuring that the finished items are as practical and usable as they are pleasing to look at. The idea for ‘Tunes’ was sparked by the Danish concept of hygge, and the way candlelight can help foster a sense of cosiness, wellbeing and intimacy. The repeating circles and slender stems, meanwhile, were inspired by musical notes – hence the name.

The resulting designs mix sleek Nordic minimalism with timeless elegance, but what I like most about them is the way they encourage creativity and make easy work of fashioning stunning displays. Here, I’ve decorated them with pine cones collected on a woodland walk, along with a few bits of golden foliage snipped from a tree in our garden. I can also see them working brilliantly with flowers and berries, or with sprigs of fir and mistletoe at Christmas. And you needn’t restrict yourself to flora, either – baubles, shells or pebbles could look just as striking. I can even imagine the candelabra and bowl holding macarons, cupcakes and pastries as part of a celebratory afternoon tea!

What’s more, the collection is incredibly versatile. The various pieces look fantastic when grouped together but also sit well on their own, and they can be used in all sort of ways around the home. I styled the candelabra as the centrepiece of an autumn table, with the smaller items arranged around it or placed on the mantlepiece to introduce interest in the rest of the room. I also used the tealight holder, pillar-candle holder and bowl to add some seasonal touches to the living room, dotting them around the coffee table, fireplace and shelves. I loved how the mirror-polished steel contrasted with and showcased the natural textures of the pine cones and leaves, and how it reflected light from the flames to create a soft, welcoming glow.

All in all, it’s a considered, imaginative and very graceful collection that I can see being used year after year to mark special occasions, or even just to add a bit of everyday magic around the home. How about you? How would you style it?

Shop the full ‘Tunes’ collection here. Prices range from £35 / €39 for the tealight and pillar-candle holders to £145 / €170 for the candelabra.

Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist then so I'm using our anniversary as an excuse to share some of my favourite wedding photos.

I have so many happy memories from the day, but what I remember the most is all the laughter. And the funniest best men's (Chris had four!) speech I've ever heard. I wish we'd had a videographer just to capture that.

Anyway, thanks @small_round_things for the last eight years - and for the 13 before we actually got around to tying the knot!

I've been a fan of their sustainable bamboo kitchens and furniture for a long time, so this was a real treat. And the space itself is full of the time-worn textures and beautiful details that always catch my eye.
