The joy of spring blossom

The joy of spring blossom | These Four Walls blog

When I interviewed textile artist Charlotte Wakefield earlier this week, her comments about rediscovering the joy in what you do really struck a chord. I'm lucky to do something I love for a living, whether it's writing, photographing, styling or helping design clients with their homes, but I know just how easy it is to get bogged down in deadlines and expectations . . .

Profile - Charlotte Wakefield of Woven Form | These Four Walls blog

You might remember that last year I decided to learn something new and started an online weaving course. I haven't really shared much of the journey so far, as I wanted to do something creative just for me with no pressure or expectations, but searching for ideas and inspiration has led me to discover all sorts of wonderful textile artists, makers and designers. London-based Charlotte Wakefield of . . .

The 'Rizzatto' lighting collection from Nuura | New finds - March 2021 | These Four Walls blog

Welcome to spring, everyone! I normally love winter, but I don't think I've ever been so happy to say hello to longer days, blossom and birdsong as I am this year! Anyway, the start of a new month - and in this case a new season - means it's time for my regular round-up of minimalist design finds. My latest discoveries include a couple of interesting launches from February's Stockholm Design Week . . .

Home tour | A beautiful mix of old & new in Leamington Spa

It's been a while since I last featured an interview-style home tour, but I love doing them when I can. It's always fascinating to get an insight into the people and stories that make a house a home, and I tend to come away from these chats with lots of ideas and inspiration. The property in today's post belongs to Francesca Chase, aka @theaccountantandroofer on Instagram . . .

How to plan a room layout

February 24, 2021

Top tips to help you plan a room layout | These Four Walls blog

Room layout is one of the most crucial aspects of good interior design, and often the thing I spend longest perfecting when working on schemes for clients. It not only impacts the way a space looks, but also how it feels - and whether it's practical and enjoyable to use on a day-to-day basis. But finding the right layout can be tricky, especially if you have any awkward shapes or dimensions . . .

Profile | Bec Kirby of Soosumsee | These Four Walls blog

A few months ago I featured the stunning house of designer Bec Kirby, and it's one of my favourite home tours to date (judging by the amount of shares and views it's received, it's one of yours, too). Her minimalist style is calm, considered and clutter-free, and I love the way she focuses on shaping spaces that feel as good as they look. So, I was very excited when she launched a new venture . . .

Rustic-minimalist interiors inspiration from Tine K Home | These Four Walls blog

Last week I took you to a snowy Norwegian fjord, but today we're heading to warmer climes courtesy of Danish brand Tine K Home's spring-summer 2021 collection. It was styled and photographed at Villa Cardo in Puglia, southern Italy, and it's a wonderful mix of dreamy escapism and useful inspiration for the home . . .

The Bolder - a pair of spectacular guest cabins high above a Norwegian fjord | These Four Walls blog

Every now and then images of a project which takes my breath away land in my inbox, and I get so excited that I end up rejigging my blog schedule so that I can share them as soon as possible. This is one such example. Perched high above Lysefjord in southwestern Norway and close to Pulpit Rock (made famous by Tom Cruise, who dangled from it in Mission Impossible 6), it's called The Bolder and . . .

Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist then so I'm using our anniversary as an excuse to share some of my favourite wedding photos.

I have so many happy memories from the day, but what I remember the most is all the laughter. And the funniest best men's (Chris had four!) speech I've ever heard. I wish we'd had a videographer just to capture that.

Anyway, thanks @small_round_things for the last eight years - and for the 13 before we actually got around to tying the knot!

I now have this design in three different colourways around the house, and this is definitely my favourite to date!

I've been a fan of their sustainable bamboo kitchens and furniture for a long time, so this was a real treat. And the space itself is full of the time-worn textures and beautiful details that always catch my eye.
