Wen van Woudenberg's insider's guide to Utrecht | These Four Walls blog

I love putting together travel content so, to provide a bit of extra inspiration in between my own trips, I'm kicking off a new series inviting Instagram and blogging friends from all over the world to share insider tips for their home towns. First up is photographer Wen van Woudenberg, who lives in the beautiful Dutch city of Utrecht. Wen runs brand-awareness and visual-storytelling studio . . .

A weekend escape to the Forest of Dean | These Four Walls blog

[Advertisement - this post is based on a press stay, but all words and opinions are my own] There's something soul-restoring about spending time in woodland - it's easy to see why the Japanese have created a whole practice called 'forest bathing', devoted to its benefits on health and wellbeing. Luckily, I live less than an hour's drive from the sprawling Forest of Dean – the oldest oak . . .

Minimalist Scandinavian furniture from Design Of | These Four Walls blog

[Advertisement - this post is part of an ongoing partnership, but all words and opinions are my own] You might have seen Swedish company Design Of in last week's round-up of my favourite places to source minimalist garden furniture, and I'm excited to announce that I've now become one of its global brand ambassadors! It's a natural fit for me, as I've been following Design Of since it was . . .

Six places to source minimalist garden furniture

Six places to source minimalist garden furniture | These Four Walls blog

The long Easter weekend is a great opportunity to start getting your garden ready for summer, especially with the weather forecast looking as promising as it does at the moment. For me, the most inviting and useable gardens are those which work like outdoor rooms, with places to dine, unwind and gather with family and friends, and as always I tend to be drawn towards simple, understated and . . .

Home tour - a converted stable block in Copenhagen | These Four Walls blog

I'm always drawn to spaces which have been adapted to suit modern living without losing any of their original character, and the subject of my latest home-tour post certainly fits the bill. One of central Copenhagen's few preserved villas, it was built in 1878 and was once a stable block for the horses that carried water from the city's lakes. The elegant 19th-century facade has been protected, . . .

A minimalist kitchen makeover on a budget | Mood board & plans

A minimalist kitchen makeover on a budget - mood board & plans | These Four Walls blog

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned briefly that we're about to give our kitchen a makeover, so today I want to share more about our plans and the thinking behind them. We inherited our current kitchen when we bought the house in 2014, and apart from adding a row of pendant lights and some open shelving, we haven't done anything else to it since we moved in. There's nothing particularly wrong . . .

Focus on: Georg Jensen's 'HK' pitcher | These Four Walls blog

[Advertisement - this post references a gifted item and a press trip, but all words and opinions are my own] Today I'm continuing my series exploring the history behind iconic pieces with a look at an item that's often considered a landmark of Danish design: Henning Koppel's elegant 'HK' pitcher, created for Georg Jensen back in 1952 and still in production 67 years later. . . .

Home tour - a minimalist apartment in Vancouver | These Four Walls blog

Today we're heading over to Vancouver for a look around an apartment which exemplifies minimalist Scandinavian style. It's the home of Kevin Chen, whose blog, Nordic Entrance, and associated Instagram feed always inspire with their beautiful imagery and useful design tips. Kevin's grey and white decor is my idea of interiors perfection - calm, considered and uncluttered, with lots of texture . . .

How to make the most of small kitchens

March 27, 2019

We’re about to start sprucing up our kitchen, but there’s one thing we won’t be able to change: its size. We don’t have the funds to knock down walls and create an open-plan kitchen-diner, so we’re going to have to make the most of the narrow galley-style space we have. It’s a dilemma I know many of you share, so before I dive into the plans for our upcoming makeover, I’ve rounded up 10 ideas . . .

I'm so excited to reveal what @tiffanygrantriley a I'm so excited to reveal what @tiffanygrantriley and I have been working on for the past few months: a new book!

Called Bring The Outside In, it explores how to harness the wellbeing-enhancing power of biophilic design (design that reconnects you with nature) in your own home. It's packed with clear, practical advice, plus peeks inside 12 beautiful real-life homes that demonstrate biophilic design in action in a wide range of settings, from city apartments to rural farmhouses.

I feel incredibly proud to have written one book, let alone two, and this one was extra-special for two reasons. Firstly, it's a topic that I've long been fascinated by and one that combines two of my passions, interior design and nature. And secondly, I was lucky enough to work on it with a friend. We had so much fun travelling around Europe capturing the homes featured (some very brief glimpses to whet your appetite here!) and we'll share some behind-the-scenes snippets soon.

Bring The Outside In will be published by @rylandpetersandsmall on 14th October and is available to pre-order now - just follow the link in my bio.

I've also interviewed Holly, founder of the gallery and interior design studio @avenue.design.studio, on my blog. I've always admired the elegant, timeless spaces she creates, and the way she reflects the architectural context of each setting. I first met her in person last year, when I featured her own home in my book, and I've since worked with her on another exciting project that I can't wait to share soon...

I missed the opening event for this last year, so it was great to finally have a look around in person. The light is stunning, as is GUBI's selection of contemporary and classic designs - including the sculptural and futuristic F300 lounge chair, first designed by Pierre Paulin in the 1960s and recently relaunched.

Which room or corner is your favourite...?
