12 of the best minimalist coat racks and coat stands

12 of the best minimalist coat racks and coat stands | These Four Walls blog

All homes need somewhere for hanging coats, bags, scarves and umbrellas, but just because coat racks and coat stands have to be practical doesn't mean they can't also be stylish. As the approaching onset of autumn means we'll soon have lots of cold-weather gear cluttering up our hallways, I've picked out 12 beautiful designs which combine functionality with sleek, minimalist aesthetics. There . . .

Home tour - a calm and considered London apartment | These Four Walls blog

The beautiful apartment featured in today’s home tour belongs to Christina Thaisen, the founder of online interiors shop NABO. Originally from Copenhagen but now living in London, Christina is a big believer in sourcing meaningful, functional and long-lasting design, rather than following throwaway trends. It’s an admirable ethos which carries through her business and her home – a minimalist . . .

A surprise stay aboard a stylish London houseboat

A surprise stay aboard a stylish London houseboat | These Four Walls blog

Last Wednesday I was sitting on the train to London, on my way to preview some of the upcoming autumn-winter designs from interiors brand MADE.com, when I received a rather unexpected email from the lovely ladies in its PR team. They’d just co-launched a brand-new houseboat rental called The Boathouse London and there’d been a last-minute cancellation, so would I like to stay there after the . . .

Mood board inspiration: styling tiles five ways

Mood board inspiration: styling tiles five ways | These Four Walls blog

[Advertisement - this is a paid partnership with Claybrook, but as always all words and opinions are my own] I love creating mood boards: they’re a great way to gather inspiration in the early stages of planning an interior scheme, and they act as a handy visual guide which you can reference going forwards. And they’re huge fun – I sometimes put them together even when I have no particular . . .

Home tour | A minimalist, Scandinavian-style house in Portugal

Home tour - a minimalist, Scandinavian-style house in Portugal | These Four Walls blog

The subject of my latest home-tour post might look like a minimalist Scandinavian pad, but it’s actually set in the beautiful Portuguese city of Porto (which, by the way, is well worth visiting). It’s owned by Susana Oliveira, whose Instagram gallery is one of my favourites. She has an excellent eye for design, and I love seeing little snippets of her gorgeous house, which blends iconic Nordic . . .

How to choose wooden flooring

How to choose wooden flooring | These Four Walls blog

Selecting the flooring was by far the trickiest decision of my recent living-room makeover – I knew I wanted wooden boards with a pale, Nordic aesthetic, but that was about it. The array of colour and finish options on the market nowadays is mind-boggling, and I must have spent hours gazing at various samples and agonising over which to choose. After all, flooring has a huge impact on both the . . .

Summer travel essentials

Summer travel essentials | These four Walls blog

When it comes to packing for a trip away, I'm as much of a minimalist as I am when I'm decorating my home: I like to have stylish yet functional items with an understated aesthetic, and I try to take only what I think I'll actually need. Over the years I've also learnt that it's worth investing in high-quality, long-lasting pieces wherever I can, particularly with regards to summer items like . . .

Profile - Hans Peter Munk of MUNK Collective | These Four Walls blog

A few months ago I used one of my regular ‘new finds’ posts to introduce you to MUNK Collective – a Danish brand with a difference. It was founded by Hans Peter Munk, who describes it as a ‘design community’ whose focus is teamwork and collaboration. He partners with emerging designers and architects from across the globe, and the result is a small but perfectly formed range of furniture, lighting . . .

My soft, minimalist living-room makeover | The reveal

My soft, minimalist living-room makeover – the reveal | These Four Walls blog

After a delay caused by missing support beams under the floor (the joys of old houses!), the makeover of our living room is finally complete, and I’m so excited to be able to share the finished look with you! You can see the ‘before’ photos and my inspiration for the room here, but essentially the aim was to create a minimalist yet soft scheme using grey, white and black – a clutter-free, . . .

I've spent many happy times there over the years as one of my closest friends lives there, but she's about to move house. So, Chris and I made the most of our last visit before she relocates - and the weather was certainly kind to us!

Some photos of the gorgeous @a.__gallery, which I Some photos of the gorgeous @a.__gallery, which I visited on a recent trip to the Netherlands. Isn't it beautiful? Calm, textural and layered, with handmade pieces by an array of independent artists and artisans.

I've also interviewed Holly, founder of the gallery and interior design studio @avenue.design.studio, on my blog. I've always admired the elegant, timeless spaces she creates, and the way she reflects the architectural context of each setting. I first met her in person last year, when I featured her own home in my book, and I've since worked with her on another exciting project that I can't wait to share soon...

I missed the opening event for this last year, so it was great to finally have a look around in person. The light is stunning, as is GUBI's selection of contemporary and classic designs - including the sculptural and futuristic F300 lounge chair, first designed by Pierre Paulin in the 1960s and recently relaunched.

Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist then so I'm using our anniversary as an excuse to share some of my favourite wedding photos.

I have so many happy memories from the day, but what I remember the most is all the laughter. And the funniest best men's (Chris had four!) speech I've ever heard. I wish we'd had a videographer just to capture that.

Anyway, thanks @small_round_things for the last eight years - and for the 13 before we actually got around to tying the knot!
