Recipe | Nduja, pepper & bean stew

August 25, 2017

Recipe - nduja, pepper & bean stew | These Four Walls blog

The latest recipe from Kym Grimshaw of food blog On The Plate is classic comfort food with a spicy twist. It's made with nduja, a fiery pork sausage from the Calabria region of Italy which has quickly become one of my favourite ingredients. I love its rich flavour, its soft crumbly texture and its versatility - you can spread it on toast, top pizzas with it, or use it as a base for stews and . . .

Six of the best… home-entertainment gadgets for minimalists

Six of the best home-entertainment gadgets for minimalists | These Four Walls blog

It’s a common dilemma: how to integrate technology into the home without detracting from the interior design. It’s certainly a problem I’ve faced over the years – I love listening to music and watching films, but after spending time creating calm, clutter-free rooms, I don’t want to ruin the look and feel with a tangle of ugly cables, a set of nasty black-plastic speakers or leads trailing across . . .

The Home Collection from Ferm Living | These Four Walls blog

We're getting towards the end of August, which means homeware brands are beginning to release details of their autumn-winter 2017 ranges. I'll be sharing some of my favourites over the next few weeks, starting with the 'Home Collection' from Danish company Ferm Living. Named after Ferm Living's new Copenhagen showroom, 'The Home', which opened its doors last week, the collection combines clean . . .

A visit to Kilver Court in Somerset

A visit to Kilver Court in Somerset | These Four Walls blog

[This is a paid partnership with Kilver Court, but all words and opinions are my own] Living in Bristol, I’m lucky enough to be within easy reach of Somerset, one of my favourite English counties. There’s so much to love about it: the vast horizons and bird-filled wetlands of the Levels, the pretty harbour towns and grand old piers of the coast, the rolling hills of the Quantocks and the . . .

At The Chapel | Bruton

At The Chapel, Bruton | These Four Walls blog

A couple of weeks ago fellow Bristol-based blogger Kym Grimshaw and I hopped in the car and headed down to Somerset for a quick girls-only getaway. Our destination was Bruton – one of my go-to places when I need an escape from the city. On the face of it, Bruton looks like any other English country town, with its honey-stone cottages, willow-lined river, ancient dovecote and twisting lanes. But . . .

Spanish design | Viccarbe

Spanish design - Viccarbe | These Four Walls blog

Today I’m sharing another discovery from the recent ‘Sunny Design Days’ tour, which was run by the Spanish Design Association (RED) to give a group of international bloggers a first-hand insight into Spain’s burgeoning design scene. I have to confess that I didn’t know very much about Viccarbe before the trip, but I soon fell in love with its contemporary furniture, much of it designed by . . .

Nærvær | Copenhagen

Nærvær, Copenhagen | These Four Walls blog

I often share peeks inside beautiful homes and hotels around the world, and I’ve decided it’s time I start throwing a few restaurants into the mix, too – they’re fantastic sources of design inspiration, and it’s always useful to keep an eye on places to visit when travelling. First up is Nærvær, a wine bar and restaurant in Copenhagen which opened its doors in June 2017. Set beside a canal in . . .

The new ‘Escapes’ collection from Skandinavisk

The new 'Escapes' collection from Skandinavisk | These Four Walls blog

As anyone who reads my posts regularly will know, I'm a bit obsessed with scented candles (you can find a round-up of my favourites here). I light them almost every evening, and there's something about their softly glowing light and subtle fragrance that instantly calms my mind after a busy day. One of my go-to brands is Copenhagen-based Skandinavisk, whose range celebrates different aspects of . . .

Home tour | A bright coastal house near Copenhagen

Home tour - a bright coastal house near Copenhagen | These Four Walls blog

This stunning abode near Copenhagen seemed like the ideal choice for my first post of August. Set in the seaside town of Vedbæk, it has a simple all-white interior with a breezy, beachy feel - perfect for a month when most of us have summer holidays firmly on the mind. Once a fisherman's cottage, the house has been transformed into a family home by the talented team at Norm Architects. They . . .

Recipe | Cherry Bakewell overnight oats

Recipe - cherry Bakewell overnight oats | These Four Walls blog

I've mentioned in previous posts that I'm not really a breakfast person during the week. Despite the old adage that it's the most important meal of the day, I tend to grab a smoothie and go, rather than sitting down to eat anything like I should. But this recipe for overnight oats from Kym Grimshaw of Bristol-based food blog On The Plate might just persuade me to break my bad habits. Firstly, . . .

I've spent many happy times there over the years as one of my closest friends lives there, but she's about to move house. Some photos of the gorgeous @a.__gallery, which I Some photos of the gorgeous @a.__gallery, which I visited on a recent trip to the Netherlands. Isn't it beautiful? Calm, textural and layered, with handmade pieces by an array of independent artists and artisans.

I've also interviewed Holly, founder of the gallery and interior design studio @avenue.design.studio, on my blog. I've always admired the elegant, timeless spaces she creates, and the way she reflects the architectural context of each setting. I first met her in person last year, when I featured her own home in my book, and I've since worked with her on another exciting project that I can't wait to share soon...

I missed the opening event for this last year, so it was great to finally have a look around in person. The light is stunning, as is GUBI's selection of contemporary and classic designs - including the sculptural and futuristic F300 lounge chair, first designed by Pierre Paulin in the 1960s and recently relaunched.

Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist then so I'm using our anniversary as an excuse to share some of my favourite wedding photos.

I have so many happy memories from the day, but what I remember the most is all the laughter. And the funniest best men's (Chris had four!) speech I've ever heard. I wish we'd had a videographer just to capture that.

Anyway, thanks @small_round_things for the last eight years - and for the 13 before we actually got around to tying the knot!
