Our engagement photos on the Cornish coast

Our engagement photos on the Cornish coast | These Four Walls blog

For a blogger, I'm rather camera-shy - I set up These Four Walls back in 2014 and I could probably count on one hand the number of photos of myself that I've posted since then. But I couldn't resist sharing a few images from our engagement shoot with talented film photographer Louise of Taylor & Porter, who I recently interviewed and who will be capturing our wedding in May. The shoot took . . .

A road trip through Liguria

A road trip through Liguria | These Four Walls blog

Last autumn Chris and I embarked on a mammoth road trip through the Liguria region of northern Italy, reviewing hotels for my day job with i-escape. We flew into Pisa and followed the coast all the way round to the French border and back again, travelling more than 1000km over the course of a week.  A packed schedule left little time to explore, but I was so struck with the colours and textures we . . .

Spring table styling from House Doctor

Spring table styling from House Doctor | These Four Walls blog

To mark the first day of March, I wanted to share a bit of spring styling inspiration from Danish homeware brand House Doctor, which has just released its latest catalogue. These images show pieces from House Doctor's tableware range, and I was instantly drawn to the calmness and simplicity on display. The collection was inspired by the idea of slowing down and savouring every moment - from . . .

New finds for February 2017 | These Four Walls blog

Over the past few weeks I've been sharing some of the fantastic new-season homeware collections that have emerged from Scandinavia and elsewhere, but there are a few individual product launches which I feel deserve some attention, too. So, time for another round-up of the designs that have appeared on my radar recently... . . .

How to introduce pink into your home

How to introduce pink into your home | These Four Walls blog

Pink is most definitely having a bit of a moment. I'm not talking about bright fuschia pink, but more muted, sophisticated shades - pale blush pink, powdery rose pink, and earthy pink with a hint of terracotta (think the colour of Moroccan adobe walls). They've been popping up all over the place for a while now, and with good reason: they're both warming and calming, and they look . . .

Recipe | Rhubarb & honeycomb porridge

Recipe - rhubarb & honeycomb porridge | These Four Walls blog

During the week, I'm not really a breakfast person. I tend to wake up early, do a bit of blog work, and then grab a quick coffee or a glass of orange juice before dashing out to my day job. At weekends, though, it's a different story. For me, Saturday and Sunday mornings are precious downtime, when I often laze in bed for hours with a good book. Delicious food is essential, of course, and so I'm . . .

Review | The Emma mattress

February 15, 2017

Review - the Emma mattress | These Four Walls blog

Chris and I have a dilemma which I’m sure many couples share: he sleeps on his front and prefers a soft mattress, whereas I tend to sleep on my back and prefer a firmer one. We’ve always ended up compromising with something in the middle, which means that neither of us is ever truly comfortable. So, when I was asked to review the Emma mattress, which is designed to suit every body type and . . .

A winter weekend at Artist Residence Cornwall

A winter weekend at Artist Residence Cornwall | These Four Walls blog

There's something so invigorating about being by the sea in winter: the crashing waves, the empty beaches, the vast skies, the beautifully crisp light... Nothing beats it for blasting away any lingering post-Christmas cobwebs, and so the other weekend Chris and I hopped in the car and journeyed down to the western tip of Cornwall for a sneaky coastal getaway. Our base was Artist Residence . . .

Spring-summer 2017 collection from Ferm Living

February 8, 2017

Spring-summer 2017 collection from ferm LIVING | These Four Walls blog

Today I have images of another fantastic new-season collection from Scandinavia to delight your eyes, this time from Danish brand Ferm Living. This year, Ferm has blended contemporary Nordic style with influences from bygone eras. The result is a mix of decadent materials and sleek Scandinavian lines which is somehow both extravagant and highly functional. . . .

Home tour | Ancient meets modern in Girona

Home tour | Ancient meets modern in Girona | These Four Walls blog

Another week, another beautiful abode to feast your eyes upon. Today I'm taking you to Girona in Catalonia, northern Spain, for a peek at not one but two wonderful apartments. Set in a 16th-century house in the shadow of the city's cathedral, they were designed by Barcelona-based architect Anna Noguera, who now lets them out as holiday rentals. Both are a beautiful combination of ancient and . . .

I've spent many happy times there over the years as one of my closest friends lives there, but she's about to move house. I've also interviewed Holly, founder of the gallery and interior design studio @avenue.design.studio, on my blog. I've always admired the elegant, timeless spaces she creates, and the way she reflects the architectural context of each setting. I first met her in person last year, when I featured her own home in my book, and I've since worked with her on another exciting project that I can't wait to share soon...

I missed the opening event for this last year, so it was great to finally have a look around in person. The light is stunning, as is GUBI's selection of contemporary and classic designs - including the sculptural and futuristic F300 lounge chair, first designed by Pierre Paulin in the 1960s and recently relaunched.

Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist then so I'm using our anniversary as an excuse to share some of my favourite wedding photos.

I have so many happy memories from the day, but what I remember the most is all the laughter. And the funniest best men's (Chris had four!) speech I've ever heard. I wish we'd had a videographer just to capture that.

Anyway, thanks @small_round_things for the last eight years - and for the 13 before we actually got around to tying the knot!
