Home tour | A minimalist farmhouse in Suffolk

Home tour | A minimalist farmhouse in Suffolk | These Four Walls blog

After talking about minimalism and Norm Architects in last week’s posts, it seems fitting that my first home tour of 2017 is a minimal house created by the Copenhagen-based studio itself. Contemporary Scandinavian design isn’t something you’d normally associate with a rural farmhouse, but Reydon Grove, located on a working farm in Suffolk (southern England), offers just that. Raised above the . . .

A minimalist approach for the new year

A minimalist approach for the new year | These Four Walls blog

Does anyone else find themselves craving calmness and simplicity in January? As soon as the madness of Christmas is over, I can't wait to tear down the decorations, clear out the clutter and focus on what really matters. I've always been drawn towards minimalism and pared-back design, but this year I want to streamline my life as well as my home. My aim is to get rid of anything that I no . . .

Norm Architects' 'Prime' bathroom collection | These Four Walls blog

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you had a restful festive break. After a wonderful week split between Bristol and my parents' house in Derbyshire, I'm feeling restored and raring to get going on 2017 posts - starting with the news that Norm Architects has launched a pared-back bathroom suite for Spanish company Inbani. Copenhagen-based Norm has created stunning designs for all sorts of . . .

Merry Christmas!

December 23, 2016

Merry Christmas from These Four Walls blog

Well, what a strange year 2016 has turned out to be. On a personal level, it's been wonderful - it started with a road trip around Iceland and a surprise proposal, and ended with a couple of exciting new projects (more on those to follow soon). On a global level, it's been turbulent and troubling, and I can't help facing 2017 with a twinge of trepidation. Next year is going to be a big one in . . .

Recipe | Cranberry & orange breakfast muffins | These Four Walls blog

Earlier in the week I shared some recipes for sweet festive treats, and now here's one for indulgent Christmas breakfasts - cranberry and orange muffins, courtesy of the lovely Kym Grimshaw from Bristol-based food blog On the Plate. Tucking into these delights is the perfect way to start lazy holiday mornings, and orange and cranberry is one of those classic crowd-pleaser combinations. You can . . .

Spring-summer 2017 collection from H&M Home

Spring-summer 2017 collection from H&M Home | These Four Walls blog

I know, I know, Christmas hasn't yet been and gone, but some of the spring-summer 2017 homeware collections are already beginning to emerge, and I couldn't resist sharing a peek at this one from H&M Home. H&M has long been one of my go-to places for affordable (and I mean really affordable) home accessories, but I've always thought of its range as cheap and cheerful rather than . . .

Sweet festive treats

December 14, 2016

Sweet festive treats

For me, Christmas is about slowing down, catching up with family and friends, and taking time to indulge in those little treats that I rarely manage to squeeze into everyday life - long winter walks, steaming mugs of hot chocolate, and settling down to read with a huge slice of something sweet. With that in mind, I've gathered together delicious recipes for festive cakes, bakes and tipples from . . .

How to make a seasonal garland

December 9, 2016

How to make a seasonal garland | These Four Walls blog

At Christmas I love decorating the house with seasonal foliage - it instantly adds a bit of festive cheer, and it fills the air with the most magical scent. In the past I've stuck to placing clusters of it in vases and on mantelpieces, but this year I decided to create a minimalist, eye-catching garland instead. This garland is quick and easy to make, and it's the perfect weekend project if you . . .

3D paper Christmas decorations from Fabulous Goose | These Four Walls blog

I recently stumbled across a new collection of beautiful 3D paper Christmas decorations from Scandinavian homeware company Fabulous Goose, and I couldn't resist sharing a few photos. The result of a collaboration between Fabulous Goose founder Valentina Albæk and Danish paper artist Theresa Jessing, the range adds a contemporary twist to timeless Christmas shapes. There are fir trees, pine . . .

Home tour | A contemporary cabin in rural Wales | These Four Walls blog

A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to be invited to 'Weekend:In', a fantastic event organised by the lovely Olivia Tripp to bring together bloggers, influencers and independent brands based in the South West and Wales. I'll talk more about the event itself in future posts, but first I want to share a look at the venue: a stunning contemporary cabin in the rolling Monmouthshire . . .

Snaps from a lovely long weekend in leafy Richmond Snaps from a lovely long weekend in leafy Richmond, West London. I've spent many happy times there over the years as one of my closest friends lives there, but she's about to move house. So, Chris and I made the most of our last visit before she relocates - and the weather was certainly kind to us!

I've also interviewed Holly, founder of the gallery and interior design studio @avenue.design.studio, on my blog. I've always admired the elegant, timeless spaces she creates, and the way she reflects the architectural context of each setting. I first met her in person last year, when I featured her own home in my book, and I've since worked with her on another exciting project that I can't wait to share soon...

I missed the opening event for this last year, so it was great to finally have a look around in person. The light is stunning, as is GUBI's selection of contemporary and classic designs - including the sculptural and futuristic F300 lounge chair, first designed by Pierre Paulin in the 1960s and recently relaunched.

Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist then so I'm using our anniversary as an excuse to share some of my favourite wedding photos.

I have so many happy memories from the day, but what I remember the most is all the laughter. And the funniest best men's (Chris had four!) speech I've ever heard. I wish we'd had a videographer just to capture that.

Anyway, thanks @small_round_things for the last eight years - and for the 13 before we actually got around to tying the knot!
