Giveaway | Win luxury bedding from House of Fraser

October 5, 2016

Giveaway | House of Fraser bedding | These Four Walls blog

This giveaway has now closed. Congratulations to the winner, Kate Parsons, and thanks to everyone who took part! I always find that beds in luxury hotels feel a little bit more special than my bed at home: the linen is a tad crisper, the duvet softer, the mattress a touch more comfortable... If you agree then you'll like my latest competition, as I've teamed up with House of Fraser to give away . . .

Home tour | A light-filled kitchen extension in London | These Four Walls blog

I love seeing how period properties can be adapted through clever design, evolving to suit modern lifestyles without losing any of their character or charm. This wonderful example comes from jewellery designer Sally Vanderpump, who has transformed the ground floor of her Edwardian house with a contemporary extension that's flooded with natural light. The result is stunning: a sociable, open-plan . . .

Investing in design classics

Investing in design classics | These Four Walls blog

This is a paid partnership with Nest, but all words and opinions are my own As I’ve grown older, I’ve begun to appreciate the importance of investing in good design; I’d far rather save up for a classic piece that I’ll enjoy every day for years to come, than rush into buying cheaper items which won’t stand the test of time. In conjunction with contemporary furniture retailer Nest, here are . . .

How to care for linen

How to care for linen | These Four Walls blog

I'll be honest: I'm not a big fan of housework, and I never thought I'd be writing a blog post about laundry. But like many people I've fallen for the wonderfully relaxed look of linen bedding, and after investing in sets for our bedroom and spare room, I'm keen to keep them looking their best. So, I've teamed up with London-based company The Linen Works, which stocks a beautiful range of linen in . . .

A weekend afloat on a London houseboat

September 26, 2016

I've always fancied embarking on a canal holiday - pootling along with a glass of wine in hand, watching the world drift slowly by. I've also always been fascinated by houseboats, and on trips to Amsterdam and Copenhagen I've found myself peering through portholes for a glimpse of life on the water. So, when Chris and I were offered a night's stay at The Palmer, a houseboat rental on Regent's . . .

Recipe | Butter-baked corn & Kym’s ultimate potato salad

Recipe | Butter-baked corn & Kym's ultimate potato salad | These Four Walls blog

The latest seasonal recipe from Kym Grimshaw of food blog On the Plate celebrates an ingredient that's synonymous with this lovely late-summer, early-autumn cusp: sweet, juicy corn on the cob. Here, Kym has given it a subtle chilli kick and served it up with what is quite possibly the best potato salad I've ever tasted (really!). It's like sunshine on a plate and makes a wonderfully easy supper. . . .

Home tour | A Scandi-inspired family house in Bristol | These Four Walls blog

Instagram is brimming with stunning real-life homes that provide plenty of interiors inspiration. One of the most beautiful that I've come across to date belongs to Beth Harrison (@_beth1980_), who shares my love of Scandinavian style and muted colours - in fact, her Victorian terrace features some of my all-time favourite pieces, including Design Letters & Friends mugs, Muuto's 'The Dots', . . .

Profile | Anni d. Photography | These Four Walls blog

I've been searching for prints to hang above our bed for months and, as is often the case nowadays, I ended up finding the answer on Instagram. It was there that I recently stumbled across Tracy Dixon, whose beautiful photography instantly caught my eye. Tracy captures unusual perspectives of the world around us, and her photos are simply stunning: striking enough to stand out against our grey . . .

Autumn-winter 2016 collection from Broste Copenhagen | These Four Walls blog

Happy Monday all! I’m kick-starting the week by sharing a peek at the latest collection from one of my favourite Danish homeware brands, Broste Copenhagen. For autumn-winter 2016, Broste has merged clean Nordic lines with Boho touches, including macrame wall hangings, rattan daybeds and shaggy cushions. The range is perfect for the colder months, with lots of snuggly textures and rich, . . .

I've spent many happy times there over the years as one of my closest friends lives there, but she's about to move house. Some photos of the gorgeous @a.__gallery, which I Some photos of the gorgeous @a.__gallery, which I visited on a recent trip to the Netherlands. Isn't it beautiful? Calm, textural and layered, with handmade pieces by an array of independent artists and artisans.

I've also interviewed Holly, founder of the gallery and interior design studio @avenue.design.studio, on my blog. I've always admired the elegant, timeless spaces she creates, and the way she reflects the architectural context of each setting. I first met her in person last year, when I featured her own home in my book, and I've since worked with her on another exciting project that I can't wait to share soon...

I missed the opening event for this last year, so it was great to finally have a look around in person. The light is stunning, as is GUBI's selection of contemporary and classic designs - including the sculptural and futuristic F300 lounge chair, first designed by Pierre Paulin in the 1960s and recently relaunched.

Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist then so I'm using our anniversary as an excuse to share some of my favourite wedding photos.

I have so many happy memories from the day, but what I remember the most is all the laughter. And the funniest best men's (Chris had four!) speech I've ever heard. I wish we'd had a videographer just to capture that.

Anyway, thanks @small_round_things for the last eight years - and for the 13 before we actually got around to tying the knot!
