The latest Urban Jungle Bloggers challenge was to create a ‘plant gang’ – a grouping of plants in all shapes, sizes and textures that celebrates the rich diversity of greenery available. I’ve amassed quite a collection of plants over recent months – neat little succulents, leafy ferns, tumbling ivy, spikey spider plants. Until now they’ve been dotted all over the house, so I had lots of fun . . .
New temptations from Loaf
I’ve long been a fan of British homeware brand Loaf, whose laid-back designs blend timeless elegance with up-to-the-minute rustic and industrial touches, so I was excited to see some lovely new products land on its website this week. The just-launched items include five sofas and the intriguingly named ‘Shortbread' bed, plus more than 20 additional fabric choices in soft, powdery pastels – . . .
Outdoor living inspiration
I have gardens on my mind this week (well, there was a brief glimmer of summer before the rain returned...). More specifically, I’ve been thinking about outdoor dining and lounging, and the idea of creating a ‘room’ outside. We’ve recently moved from a flat with a large garden to a house with a much smaller plot, but I have a feeling we’re going to use our new outdoor space a lot more than the . . .
A wine-fuelled stay in the Douro Valley
I’ve posted a few things about our recent time in Porto, and now I want to share some images from the last leg of our trip – the beautiful Douro Valley, which is just a short motorway hop from the city. The Douro is the oldest wine-producing region in the world, and it’s also one of the most beautiful – a string of steeply terraced vineyards plunging down towards a winding river, with sleepy . . .
Profile | Midgley Green
I’m always excited when I discover inspiring new homeware brands, particularly when they’re located in and around Bristol. So, I’m delighted to introduce Midgley Green, a Somerset-based website with a beautifully crafted range of pieces. Over to co-founder Katherine to explain more… . . .
A lazy lunch at The Ethicurean
Last Sunday we finally visited somewhere that’s been hovering at the top of our must-do list for ages: The Ethicurean, a seasonal and sustainable restaurant located a few miles south of Bristol in the rolling foothills of the Mendips. Set in an Edwardian glasshouse within the walls of the Barley Wood Kitchen Garden, it’s run by hunter and mixologist Jack Adair-Bevan, Mexican-born Paûla Zarate . . .
Urban Jungle Bloggers | A green gift
This month’s Urban Jungle Bloggers challenge was to create a ‘green gift’ – a plant-themed present for a birthday, dinner, wedding or house-warming. I can’t think of a better gift than a plant – living, long-lasting and ever-growing. When Chris and I moved into our current property we were given potted roses and herbs by several friends, and I love looking at them every day, knowing they will . . .
Rosa Et Al Townhouse | Porto
I was very excited about staying at Rosa Et Al Townhouse [AD - affiliate link], the second of the hotels in Porto which Chris and I were reviewing forms day job (you can read more about our time in the city here and here). It’s set in the trendiest part of town, just off the café- and gallery-lined Rua de Miguel Bombarda, and I had a feeling we were going to love it. And we did. Hidden behind a . . .
1872 River House | Porto
Last week I posted a few photos from our recent break in the buzzing, beguiling and beautifully shabby city of Porto. Now I want to show you around the hotels we visited, starting with 1872 River House [AD - affiliate link] – a lovely little bolthole that I was reviewing for my day job. This tall, skinny mansion in salmon pink sits right on the riverbank in Ribeira (the Unesco-listed old . . .
Instagram Inspiration | Me and Orla
I hope you enjoyed the first post in my new monthly series introducing some of my favourite Instagrammers – Emma Harris of @aquietstyle really does produce the most stunning still-life images. Next up is Sara Tasker (aka @me_and_orla), whose beautiful blog Me and Orla is an honest, insightful and often witty account of life in a small Yorkshire village. If anyone’s feed is going to make me want . . .
