Exploring Finnish Lapland in winter

Exploring Finnish Lapland in winter | These Four Walls blog

[Advertisement - this post is based on a press trip, but all words and opinions are my own] Few places have captured my heart the way Finnish Lapland did. I loved the vast skies and the fresh Arctic air (the cleanest in the world, apparently). I loved the frozen lakes and the silent forests, with their towering pine trees and spruces twisted into otherworldly shapes under the weight of snow . . .

A stay at Design Hotel Levi in Finnish Lapland

A stay at Design Hotel Levi in Finnish Lapland | These Four Walls blog

[Advertisement - this post is based on a press trip, but all words and opinions are my own] I've spoken before about my love of travelling to cold destinations, and Lapland - the remote, sparsely populated region that stretches across northern Finland - has always held near-mystical appeal. I've long dreamt of visiting in winter to experience its silent, snow-covered wilderness . . .

Sunset and starling murmurations on the Somerset Levels | These Four Walls blog

Although I love living in a city, I always appreciate escaping to the countryside for a few hours, and I'm lucky that Bristol is within easy reach of some of the most beautiful parts of the UK. One of my favourite areas to visit is the Somerset Levels - a vast swathe of wildlife-rich plains and wetlands whose watery vistas and ever-changing light always feed my soul . . .

A stylish chalet break in the French Alps

January 23, 2020

[Advertisement - this post is based on a press trip, but all words and opinions are my own] I love winter travel - some of my favourite holidays have taken me to frozen landscapes such as Iceland and West Sweden, and I'd choose snow and ice over a tropical beach any day. That said, I've always shied away from booking stays in classic ski destinations . . .

A visit to Edinburgh’s Royal Botanic Garden

A visit to Edinburgh's Royal Botanic Garden | These Four Walls blog

I shared my top tips for a city break in Edinburgh last week, but there was one particular place which I loved so much - and which had me snapping away with my camera to such an extent - that I couldn't resist dedicating a separate post to it: the Royal Botanic Garden . . .

Top tips for a city break in Edinburgh | These Four Walls blog

It's time for another travel guide, this time covering the fantastic city of Edinburgh. Chris has to go to the Scottish capital for work several times a year, and we've been talking about combining it with a weekend break for ages. We finally made it happen last month, so I wanted to share my top tips on where to stay, eat, drink, shop and explore . . .

I'm so excited to reveal what @tiffanygrantriley a I'm so excited to reveal what @tiffanygrantriley and I have been working on for the past few months: a new book!

Called Bring The Outside In, it explores how to harness the wellbeing-enhancing power of biophilic design (design that reconnects you with nature) in your own home. It's packed with clear, practical advice, plus peeks inside 12 beautiful real-life homes that demonstrate biophilic design in action in a wide range of settings, from city apartments to rural farmhouses.

I feel incredibly proud to have written one book, let alone two, and this one was extra-special for two reasons. Firstly, it's a topic that I've long been fascinated by and one that combines two of my passions, interior design and nature. And secondly, I was lucky enough to work on it with a friend. We had so much fun travelling around Europe capturing the homes featured (some very brief glimpses to whet your appetite here!) and we'll share some behind-the-scenes snippets soon.

Bring The Outside In will be published by @rylandpetersandsmall on 14th October and is available to pre-order now - just follow the link in my bio.

I've spent many happy times there over the years as one of my closest friends lives there, but she's about to move house. Some photos of the gorgeous @a.__gallery, which I Some photos of the gorgeous @a.__gallery, which I visited on a recent trip to the Netherlands. Isn't it beautiful? Calm, textural and layered, with handmade pieces by an array of independent artists and artisans.

I've also interviewed Holly, founder of the gallery and interior design studio @avenue.design.studio, on my blog. I've always admired the elegant, timeless spaces she creates, and the way she reflects the architectural context of each setting. I first met her in person last year, when I featured her own home in my book, and I've since worked with her on another exciting project that I can't wait to share soon...

I missed the opening event for this last year, so it was great to finally have a look around in person. The light is stunning, as is GUBI's selection of contemporary and classic designs - including the sculptural and futuristic F300 lounge chair, first designed by Pierre Paulin in the 1960s and recently relaunched.

Which room or corner is your favourite...?
