Over the years, squeezing in a quick December break has become a bit of a pre-Christmas tradition for Chris and me – it’s a chance to escape the shopping, the decorating and the frenetic preparations, and to relax somewhere quiet for a day or two. We always try to pick a suitably atmospheric spot and this year’s choice, The Crown in Amersham, was perfect – stylish, cosy and brimming with good . . .
A walk along Clevedon Pier
One of the things I love most about living in Bristol is that I get to soak up all the big-city buzz, yet I can zip out to the countryside in minutes. The Somerset Levels, the Cotswolds and the Mendip Hills are all nearby, but perhaps my favourite spot of all is Clevedon Pier, just a short drive away on the coast. Hidden behind a listed façade in 19th-century Brussels shopping arcade Les Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert, its 23 rooms, communal library and ground-floor restaurant have . . .
Hotel Miss Clara | Stockholm
In my final post about our recent trip to Sweden, I want to share a few snaps of the stylish Hotel Miss Clara, which sits in the very centre of Stockholm on the buzzing thoroughfare of Sveavagen. It’s been on my radar ever since it opened a couple of years ago, so we decided to make the most of our last night in the city and treat ourselves to a stay. Part of the Design Hotels group, it . . .
A magical summer moment
I feel very lucky to live in a part of the world with defined seasons, and I love watching the landscape change around me as the months roll on. But I think this time of year is perhaps my favourite of all: branches sagging with fruit, swathes of flowers along verges and hedgerows, the scent of wild garlic lingering in the air... There’s something particularly magical about the golden evening . . .
