Three nature-inspired colour schemes for timeless Christmas style

November 23, 2021

Minimalist Christmas decorations in blush pink, beige and grey | Three nature-inspired colour scheme for timeless Christmas style | These Four Walls blog

I often get design inspiration from nature, and it’s no different when it comes to Christmas. So, to give you some ideas for your own festive decor, I’ve put together three colour palettes that all take their cue from different aspects of the winter landscape. For each I’ve picked out some beautiful buys to help you get the look, with pieces for your tree, table and more – and I’ve focused on creating timeless combinations rather than being led by any particular trends, meaning you can treasure and reuse the decorations for years to come. What’s more, the individual colours and ornaments are extremely versatile and can all be used in multiple ways, giving you scope to play around with different stylings without having to buy anything new.

Earthy tones

The earthy browns of frosted ferns and branches | Three nature-inspired colour scheme for timeless Christmas style | These Four Walls blog

Evoking frosty fields and woodland as autumn turns to winter, this scheme mixes earthy browns and ochres with moss greens and rust reds. Bare branches and dried ferns bring even more of the season indoors.

White and gold

The sparkling whites and golds of snow-covered pines | Three nature-inspired colour scheme for timeless Christmas style | These Four Walls blog

Perhaps the most enduring of all, this palette mixes crisp white with metallic brass and gold. It looks wonderful against fir, pine and other evergreen foliage, evoking a Nordic forest blanketed in glistening snow. Minimalist shapes keep things looking contemporary without losing any of the Christmas magic.

Blush pink, beige and grey

The beiges and blush pinks of a cold winter sunset | Three nature-inspired colour scheme for timeless Christmas style | These Four Walls blog

Blush pink and beige – the colours of a cold winter sky at sunset – make for a soft and very pretty Christmas scheme. Cloud-grey accents add a bit of depth and stop it from looking twee – and it’s a combination that works well with touches of silver should you want to incorporate some festive sparkle.

Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist then so I'm using our anniversary as an excuse to share some of my favourite wedding photos.

I have so many happy memories from the day, but what I remember the most is all the laughter. And the funniest best men's (Chris had four!) speech I've ever heard. I wish we'd had a videographer just to capture that.

Anyway, thanks @small_round_things for the last eight years - and for the 13 before we actually got around to tying the knot!

I now have this design in three different colourways around the house, and this is definitely my favourite to date!

A few weeks ago I travelled to Drammen in Norway f A few weeks ago I travelled to Drammen in Norway for the big project I'm working on (more on that soon), and while I was there I had a look around @askogeng's workshop. I've been a fan of their sustainable bamboo kitchens and furniture for a long time, so this was a real treat. And the space itself is full of the time-worn textures and beautiful details that always catch my eye.
