As you may have guessed, I have a bit of an obsession with Scandinavian design. I love its sleek simplicity, its timeless lines and its blend of form and function, and I always get excited when I find a new Nordic brand to lust over.
My latest discovery is AYTM, which is based in the Danish city of Aarhus. It was founded by Kathrine and Per Gran Hartvigsen, the duo behind well-known company Gran Living, and it adds a decadent, dramatic edge to classic Scandinavian minimalism.
The first collection focuses on the living room, dining room and kitchen, and it’s surprisingly large for such a newly established brand. It covers everything from marble-topped side tables to sculpture, as well as smaller items such as trays and printed tea towels. Throughout, there’s an emphasis on rich colours, striking geometric shapes and contrasting textures and surfaces (sparkling metallics, dark woods, lustrous velvets).
My favourite pieces are the ‘Aeris’ cushion, which has an eye-catching 3D pattern, and the elegant smoked-glass ‘Toto’ jars. I also love the ‘Annulus’ and ‘Anulo’ candleholders and the ‘Circum’ mirrors, which are beautiful in their simplicity.
The whole collection is a luxurious, playful take on Scandinavian design, and it’s certainly an impressive start. I can’t wait to see what AYTM has in store next…
