Design hotel Villa Copenhagen opened in the heart of the Danish capital back in 2020, and I’ve admired it from afar ever since. Not only is it stunning architecturally (it occupies the neo-Baroque former central post and telegraph building, with a 25m heated outdoor pool on its roof), but it also houses a number of very special suites decorated in collaboration with renowned brands such as &Tradition and Shamballa Jewels. When I heard that a new addition by Ferm Living was in the works, I knew we could expect great things – and judging from the just-released press images, it isn’t going to disappoint.
Called the Residential Suite, it encompasses two ensuite bedrooms connected by a living room complete with sofas, dining area and workspace. The Ferm Living team’s goal was to blend original features with considered contemporary design, creating a home away from home that’s luxurious yet also intimate and comforting.
It certainly does look more home than hotel room, albeit a very stylish and high-end home. That’s partly because of all the different textures, with tactile upholstery, fluffy rugs and tapestry-like wall hangings adding layers of inviting cosiness, and partly because of little decorative touches such as a gallery wall and clusters of ceramics on windowsills and shelves.
There’s also a very clever use of colour. The suite is mostly decorated in a tone-on-tone palette of earthy beiges, creating a very calming and grounded atmosphere, but a lemon-yellow ceiling and vibrant artwork provide uplifting splashes of colour here and there. Subtle black accents and rich woods, meanwhile, add depth and structure to the neutral scheme.
What I love most about the suite, though, are the contrasting shapes at play. The curved forms of the Ferm Living ‘Oval’ pouf, ‘Rico’ sofa and chairs and ‘Feve’ desk offset the clean lines of the wall panelling beautifully, and add a lovely note of softness to the space. They also echo the swooshing woodwork and arched doorways of the building’s communal areas, created in 1912 by architect Heinrich Wench and meticulously restored during its conversion into a hotel.
The Residential Suite is available to book now from DKK 12,500 (£1,490) per night. If that’s just a tad out of your budget, Villa Copenhagen’s normal (but no less beautiful!) guest rooms start at DKK 1,790 (£215) per night.

My pleasure! I definitely couldn’t afford the suite but the standard rooms are very tempting too…
