The final festive touches

December 15, 2017

A few final festive touches | These Four Walls blog

December seems to be flying by, and I can’t believe Christmas is now just over a week away. Although I put most of our decorations up a while ago (blogging means doing it a lot earlier than I used to!), a few additional festive touches have crept in over the past couple of days.

First up are these beautiful paper pine cones from Danish brand Fabulous Goose, which I made at a fun Christmas workshop with interior designer Mathilde from MK Design London. I first blogged about Fabulous Goose’s 3D decorations last year, so I was very excited to get a chance to try them out for myself. A collaboration with paper artist Theresa Jessing, they’re made from environmentally certified paper and come as flat-packed pre-cut kits which you assemble yourself. There are mistletoe and fir-tree designs as well as the pine cones, and they all look great hung in clusters from windows and ceilings; I’ve dangled mine from branches which I spray-painted white and arranged in a vase on a sideboard.

As well as the paper pine cones, I’ve dotted a few real ones on the mantelpiece in our dining room (you might have spotted them in the background of my table-styling post). They sit alongside a minimalist grey wooden star which I’ve had for a while and which always makes an appearance somewhere around the house at this time of year.

Pine cones also appear in my final festive addition: another wreath (my fourth to date in 2017!). I created this one at a workshop with my lovely friend Kirstie from Ruby & The Wolf (the woman behind the beautiful flowers at our wedding), and it was always intended for the outside of the house. In contrast with the minimalist wreaths that I made for the inside, I wanted to go for a full, slightly wild look to help it stand out on our front door. I therefore used lots of foliage in different shades of green and positioned the sprigs so that they swoosh out from the centre (I had the shape of a Catherine wheel in mind while putting it together).

Thanks Cate! Fabulous Goose’s designs are so clever – I’m tempted to get the mistletoe version too x

Snaps from a lovely long weekend in leafy Richmond Snaps from a lovely long weekend in leafy Richmond, West London. I've spent many happy times there over the years as one of my closest friends lives there, but she's about to move house. So, Chris and I made the most of our last visit before she relocates - and the weather was certainly kind to us!

Some photos of the gorgeous @a.__gallery, which I Some photos of the gorgeous @a.__gallery, which I visited on a recent trip to the Netherlands. Isn't it beautiful? Calm, textural and layered, with handmade pieces by an array of independent artists and artisans.

I've also interviewed Holly, founder of the gallery and interior design studio @avenue.design.studio, on my blog. I've always admired the elegant, timeless spaces she creates, and the way she reflects the architectural context of each setting. I first met her in person last year, when I featured her own home in my book, and I've since worked with her on another exciting project that I can't wait to share soon...

I missed the opening event for this last year, so it was great to finally have a look around in person. The light is stunning, as is GUBI's selection of contemporary and classic designs - including the sculptural and futuristic F300 lounge chair, first designed by Pierre Paulin in the 1960s and recently relaunched.

Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist then so I'm using our anniversary as an excuse to share some of my favourite wedding photos.

I have so many happy memories from the day, but what I remember the most is all the laughter. And the funniest best men's (Chris had four!) speech I've ever heard. I wish we'd had a videographer just to capture that.

Anyway, thanks @small_round_things for the last eight years - and for the 13 before we actually got around to tying the knot!
