Giveaway | Win an Etta French jewellery candle from Nisi Living

October 26, 2016

Giveaway | Win an Etta French jewellery candle from Nisi Living | These Four Walls blog

This giveaway has now closed. Thanks to everyone who entered, and congratulations to the winner, Rebekah Terrell!

I love scented candles and I love jewellery, so I was intrigued to hear about a new range of ‘jewellery candles’ from Etta French. From the outside they look like any other candle, but hidden within the wax is a surprise – a necklace, charm, bracelet or ring designed by jewellery brand Pearl & Queenie.

The candles are available from Nisi Living, a Bristol-based homeware website which focuses on modern Mediterranean style. It was founded by Eleni Portch, who was inspired by the relaxed, sociable lifestyle she enjoyed during childhood holidays with her Greek relatives. Etta French is just one of the brands she features; others include European names such as Marlo & Isaure and Lalla de Moulati, plus up-and-coming British designers Georgia Bosson and Alex McCarthy Ceramics. When Eleni asked if I’d like to try one of the candles I jumped at the chance, and she’s also kindly giving one away to a lucky reader – just scroll down for details.

There are six Etta French scents to choose from, including a limited-edition nutmeg, orange and cinnamon fragrance for the festive period. I opted for rose, saffron and vetiver – a wonderfully heady combination of floral notes and spicy, earthy elements. It lingered for hours, and was neither cloyingly sweet nor overly musky – in fact, Chris liked it just as much as I did. I was also very impressed with the stylish white jar (perfect for our muted, minimal house) and the natural soy wax, which produced a clean, smooth burn.

But best of all was the foil-covered package which slowly began to emerge from the wax. A little patience was required as the candles last for 45-50 hours, but eventually I was able to carefully retrieve it with a pair of tweezers and unwrap the treat within. Tightly encased in several protective layers was a beautiful necklace with a heart-shaped charm – one of 100 or so gold- and silver-plated designs which are added to each candle.

I've spent many happy times there over the years as one of my closest friends lives there, but she's about to move house. I've also interviewed Holly, founder of the gallery and interior design studio @avenue.design.studio, on my blog. I've always admired the elegant, timeless spaces she creates, and the way she reflects the architectural context of each setting. I first met her in person last year, when I featured her own home in my book, and I've since worked with her on another exciting project that I can't wait to share soon...

Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist then so I'm using our anniversary as an excuse to share some of my favourite wedding photos.

I have so many happy memories from the day, but what I remember the most is all the laughter. And the funniest best men's (Chris had four!) speech I've ever heard. I wish we'd had a videographer just to capture that.

Anyway, thanks @small_round_things for the last eight years - and for the 13 before we actually got around to tying the knot!
