Introducing Happy + Co

October 7, 2016

Introducing Happy + Co | These Four Walls blog

I get all sorts of emails about new homeware brands, and to be honest a lot of them aren’t of much interest. But every now and then something intriguing pops into my inbox.

One such email recently arrived from just-launched Happy + Co, and it instantly made me want to find out more – it’s pretty hard not to be fascinated by a company which describes its products as ‘little splashes of happiness, designed to be noticed but above all to be loved’.

Its collection certainly is beautiful – cushions, table linens, bedding and furniture, all sporting striking prints inspired by places that the founders, Penny Capper and her interior designer godfather Gary Elton, have visited on their travels. But it’s the ethos behind the brand which really makes it stand out. Penny and Gary wanted to embed social responsibility at the heart of the business, and they invest 10% of the profits in the Happy + Co Farm in Cambodia, which grows fruit and veg for the local community and provides much-needed jobs. They also visit every supplier regularly to ensure all products are made ethically by a happy workforce.

I was lucky enough to try a couple of pieces from their collection, so I can vouch for their quality. My first choice was the ‘Bondi’ cushion in steel grey. Its screen-printed cotton cover adds a touch of exoticism to our otherwise muted interiors, and the duck-feather filling is oh-so comfy. It now takes pride of place on my beloved Hay J110 chair, where I like to sit and read at the weekends.

I also couldn’t resist one of the wooden ‘Happy Bunnies’, which are handmade in Bali. Mine has been named Arnold (no idea why!) and he makes me smile every time I walk past his perch. He has a habit of moving during the night, and I’ve found him everywhere from bookshelves to mantelpieces.

Both items arrived beautifully packaged in drawstring bags, which I’m planning to reuse for laundry and storage. They were also sporting lovely little labels saying ‘So happy I’m home’. And I’m rather happy to have them home, too!

Happy + Co kindly gifted items for the purpose of this post, but as always all words and opinions are my own.

I now have this design in three different colourways around the house, and this is definitely my favourite to date!

A few weeks ago I travelled to Drammen in Norway f A few weeks ago I travelled to Drammen in Norway for the big project I'm working on (more on that soon), and while I was there I had a look around @askogeng's workshop. I've been a fan of their sustainable bamboo kitchens and furniture for a long time, so this was a real treat. And the space itself is full of the time-worn textures and beautiful details that always catch my eye.

Is it just me, or are slightly droopy flowers the Is it just me, or are slightly droopy flowers the most elegant? Anyway, these are butterfly ranunculus - always a favourite. I couldn't resist the lovely soft peach ones - such a pretty colour for spring.

If you've seen my Stories, you'll know we've had a stressful Sunday and Monday thanks to a poorly cat and some big house news. At least it's only a four-day week!
