I feature a lot of beautiful homes on this blog, but every now and then one comes along that makes me think: ‘If I was starting my house again from scratch, that’s exactly how I’d do it’. The apartment in today’s post is one such example. Located in Stockholm, it belongs to blogger and designer Lovisa Häger and it’s just been put up for sale with Nomad Mäkleri.
Lovisa has renovated the entire apartment since buying it, stripping back Lino and varnish to expose the original floorboards, removing sections of wall to give a more open feel, and painting and decorating throughout. The result is a timeless, elegant and welcoming home that showcases the stunning period features and looks much bigger than its 57sqm.
The living room is decorated in a soft silvery grey, with beige textiles and rich wooden furniture adding warmth. I love the way the skirting boards, windowsills and door frames have been painted in a darker colour, creating a striking feature without overpowering the space as a whole. There’s also lots of wonderful texture in the form of fluffy chair covers, rattan radiator screens, deep-pile rugs and tactile artworks, many of which Lovisa – an avid DIY’er – made herself. The dining and coffee tables are also Lovisa’s own creations, and if you want to get the look yourself you’ll be pleased to hear that she’s even designed a collection of mix-and-match tabletops and legs called Lair.
The colours of the living room have been carried through into the bedroom, but here the balance has been altered to create a cosier and more cocooning feel. The dark shade used on the woodwork has been applied to the whole room, while the beige and wood tones are reflected in the bedding, linen-covered headboard and bedside tables. There’s more DIY on display in here too, thanks to a clothes rail fashioned from copper piping to fit above and around two sets of drawers and maximise storage.
The kitchen is similarly beautiful, with a warm taupe scheme and sophisticated black worktops. The units are from IKEA, but they were tailored by a carpenter to provide open shelves in a slightly awkward corner. I love the way the sleek, minimalist doors contrast with the mottled limestone floor and the textured plaster on the walls, and the way the table and chairs provide yet more nods to the colours and materials used elsewhere in the apartment.
I also have to mention the lighting, which gives another note of continuity throughout the various spaces. Serge Mouille lamps make an appearance in every room, either on the wall or ceiling, and their graceful curves and brass fittings suit the apartment perfectly. The black is also reflected in the living room’s table lamp and Flos ‘Luminator’ floor lamp, which make ideal finishing touches.
If you want to see more of Lovisa’s home and work then check out her blog, An Interior Affair, where you’ll also find photos of what the apartment looked like before she renovated it. Believe me, it’s quite a transformation!
