Home tour | The Scandi-inspired apartment of an interiors blogger

June 21, 2016

Home tour | The Scandi-inspired apartment of blogger Coco Lapine Design | These Four Walls blog

I’m very excited about today’s home tour because I’m sharing a peek inside the beautiful apartment of one of my favourite bloggers, Sarah Van Peteghem of Coco Lapine Design.

Sarah’s blog is full of striking monochrome interiors, calming greys and Scandinavian-influenced pieces, and her airy, light-filled Munich home is no different. It’s also packed with stunning original features (I have serious parquet-floor envy!), and showcases some of the fantastic prints which she designs and sells alongside blogging.

Over to Sarah herself for more…

Please can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?

“I’m originally from Antwerp in Belgium, where I studied industrial design. After doing a specialisation in the Netherlands, I moved to Berlin and started working there five years ago. I started my interior design blog as a creative outlet from my work life, and soon after I began designing prints as well. My blog has grown a lot since then, and I’m so happy that my prints have made it into homes all over the world. Half a year ago my partner and I moved to Munich and I’m now taking care of my brand full time, which I couldn’t be more excited about.”

Where’s home, and how long have you lived there?

“We’ve lived in Munich for about six months now. Finding the right apartment was quite a challenge, but in February we moved into a building from 1886, with many old architectural elements that I love.”

How would you describe your interior style?

“My style is definitely Scandinavian-influenced, but I like to mix it up with other elements as well. I like interiors to be quite minimal with clean lines, but without losing the cosiness of a home.”

What work have you carried out to the apartment?

“Here in Germany, it’s quite common to rent a home without a kitchen, especially after a renovation. In our case the old kitchen had been taken out. The floors and walls had been redone, but we had to build a kitchen ourselves. This was quite a challenge, as we’d never done anything like it before, but we’re so happy with the results.”

What’s your favourite corner of your home?

“I’m very happy to have my own office in our new home. With all the prints I sell comes a lot of packaging material, so it’s nice to have a room where I can store it all and be able to work in silence, away from everything else that’s going on.”

And your favourite piece?

“The Vipp wall lamp that hangs above the dining table in the kitchen. This really was the final touch in the room, and it’s made everything come together.”

Where do you source things for your home? Any favourite shops or websites?

“I absolutely love Artilleriet in Gothenburg, which I would like to visit some day. I’m always looking on their website for inspiration because they present their products so nicely. I usually try to find the items that I like in different shops here in Germany though, as they’re based in Sweden.”

Finally, please can you tell us a bit about your latest prints?

“My latest collection includes a range of photographs that I took on trips to Palma and Brazil, all with a botanical theme. There are also three prints which I started with paint brushes on paper, and then reworked on the computer to make interesting formations. My personal favourites are the ‘Palm Leaf‘ and ‘Cædere‘ prints.”

Gorgeous – so serene! And another style icon who has a Kubus candle holder. The Copenhagen flights are booked – I will own one of those bad boys in August! Jillx

I now have this design in three different colourways around the house, and this is definitely my favourite to date!

A few weeks ago I travelled to Drammen in Norway f A few weeks ago I travelled to Drammen in Norway for the big project I'm working on (more on that soon), and while I was there I had a look around @askogeng's workshop. I've been a fan of their sustainable bamboo kitchens and furniture for a long time, so this was a real treat. And the space itself is full of the time-worn textures and beautiful details that always catch my eye.

Is it just me, or are slightly droopy flowers the Is it just me, or are slightly droopy flowers the most elegant? Anyway, these are butterfly ranunculus - always a favourite. I couldn't resist the lovely soft peach ones - such a pretty colour for spring.

If you've seen my Stories, you'll know we've had a stressful Sunday and Monday thanks to a poorly cat and some big house news. At least it's only a four-day week!
