It’s home-tour time again and today I’m taking you over to Sweden for a peek inside the beautiful apartment of Felicia Alm. Set in the small town of Landskrona, it’s a stunning mix of old and new, with ornate period features (just take a look at that coving and traditional tiled stove!), soothing grey, white and blue walls, and striking black and brown accents. I’ve been admiring it via Felicia’s blog and Instagram feed for a while now, so I was very excited when she agreed to be interviewed about her passion for design, the inspiration behind her style and why she loves hunting out vintage finds.
Over to Felicia herself for more….
Hi Felicia! Please could you start by telling us a bit about yourself and what you do?
“I’m 25 years old, and you could describe me as a creative, outgoing, outside-the-box thinker. My heart beats a little harder for projects related to interior design, visual communication and marketing. I have a bachelor’s degree in architecture and visual communication, and at the moment I’m a content management student, illustrator and visual merchandiser.”
Where’s home, and how long have you lived there?
“I live in southern Sweden, in a small town called Landskrona, and I share a 75sqm apartment with my partner Viktor. The property we live in was built around 1890, and when you enter the main entrance you see columns and stucco ceilings. Over the past four years we’ve lived in three different apartments, which we’ve bought, renovated and then sold. You could either call us two restless souls or a pair of real-estate lovers!”
Felicia’s living room is painted in a pale, silvery grey – the perfect backdrop for her collection of vintage and contemporary furniture. Built-in shelves behind the dining table display a few favourite accessories, and double doors lead through to the kitchen, where sophisticated black units are offset by white stone worktops and brass handles.
Have you made many changes since buying your current apartment?
“When we moved into the apartment in April 2017, it was in need of total renovation. So we spent the whole summer renovating and we tried to do as much as we could ourselves. We thought it was important to try to keep the different spatial features of the apartment while making it modern and personal.”
How would you describe your interiors style?
“I’ve always had a great passion for architecture, interior design and graphic design, and my style is quite varied. I like to mix old and new. And I like it when things happen in my environment, so our home is constantly changing. I can be kind of impulsive – if I get a good idea I will probably go through with it the next day!”
Ceramics and textiles in black, beige and brown add contrast and cosiness to the seating area. The coffee table is IKEA’s ‘VITTSJÖ’ design, the black version of which I have in my own living room.
Where do you find inspiration for your home?
“From Instagram, magazines and Pinterest.”
What’s your favourite part of your home and why?
“Our bedroom is my favourite. It’s painted blue – a colour which, in my opinion, contributes to a calm, relaxing and harmonious mood.”
And your favourite piece of furniture?
“My pink vintage chaise-longue – it’s unique and the colour is absolutely wonderful. We’re moving again in April next year and my mother has kindly offered to store it in one of her rooms. However, I do wonder if I’ll get it back…!”
The bedroom’s muted blue walls work brilliantly with the white bed linen, white woodwork and brass lamps. They also help showcase the pink chaise-longue – Felicia’s favourite piece.
Where do you like to source items for your home – any favourite brands or shops?
“Because I like to change and renew our home, I think it’s important to consider sustainability. I therefore try to shop second-hand in antique stores. You can find really unique things that way, and it’s normally cheaper. I buy some items from H&M Home and Ellos, too.”
Do you have any future plans for your home?
“As I mentioned, we’re actually selling the apartment at the moment. We love it, but we feel we’re ready for a new project. I’m looking forward to decorating and styling our new home. We’ve bought a new-build apartment so it’s going to be a challenge to make it cosy and personal. We’re planning to do some small renovations before we move in.”
The bathroom is decorated in an elegant mix of marble, white and brass. The brown counter-top sink is particularly beautiful.
Finally, what’s your top interior-design tip?
“Find your own unique style. And don’t be afraid to try new things. Also, try to decorate with contrast and use different shades of colour.”
Thanks Felicia!
