Home tour | A sleek Stockholm apartment

September 5, 2016

Home tour | A sleek Stockholm apartment | These Four Walls blog

I shared a photo of the striking kitchen-diner in this beautiful Swedish home in last week’s splashbacks post, and I liked it so much that I couldn’t resist hunting down images of the rest of the apartment via real-estate agency Fantastic Frank. Set in a 19th-century building, it’s painted in moody shades of grey and mixes clean-lined, contemporary furniture with a sprinkling of quirkier pieces.

The room which first caught my eye is sleek and oh-so chic. Glossy white units are offset by black worktops and a black oven hood, and glass splashbacks protect the walls without distracting from the minimalist scheme (you can find similar designs at Creoglass). There are some wonderful details, including black door handles and clever little lamps perched on top of the cupboards to provide additional lighting.

The table is Muuto’s ‘Adaptable Dining Table‘, which has mix-and-match frame, top and leg options in a range of colours and materials. The black and pale-oak combination chosen here works brilliantly, as it echoes the kitchen counters and the flooring. It’s flanked by metal Tolix chairs, which have been customised with matching wooden seats.

The lounge has an air of decadence thanks to its velvet sofa, glass chandelier and windowsill sculptures. The coffee table on casters adds an industrial edge, as does the exposed-bulb lamp on the shelf (you can find a similar design, created by TAF Architects, over at Muuto).

Built-in wardrobes mean the bedroom is almost entirely free of furniture, placing the focus firmly on the traditional Scandinavian stove in the corner. The overall look is airy and very simple, but lots of texture – snuggly carpet, crumpled linen, silky curtains – prevent the space from feeling stark.

Last but not least is the monochrome bathroom, which is small but perfectly formed. I love the contrast between the neat white tiling on the walls and the darker, larger slabs used on the floor and inside the shower, as well as the clever recessed mirror which doubles as a shelf.

Snaps from a lovely long weekend in leafy Richmond Snaps from a lovely long weekend in leafy Richmond, West London. I've spent many happy times there over the years as one of my closest friends lives there, but she's about to move house. So, Chris and I made the most of our last visit before she relocates - and the weather was certainly kind to us!

Some photos of the gorgeous @a.__gallery, which I Some photos of the gorgeous @a.__gallery, which I visited on a recent trip to the Netherlands. Isn't it beautiful? Calm, textural and layered, with handmade pieces by an array of independent artists and artisans.

I've also interviewed Holly, founder of the gallery and interior design studio @avenue.design.studio, on my blog. I've always admired the elegant, timeless spaces she creates, and the way she reflects the architectural context of each setting. I first met her in person last year, when I featured her own home in my book, and I've since worked with her on another exciting project that I can't wait to share soon...

I missed the opening event for this last year, so it was great to finally have a look around in person. The light is stunning, as is GUBI's selection of contemporary and classic designs - including the sculptural and futuristic F300 lounge chair, first designed by Pierre Paulin in the 1960s and recently relaunched.

Which room or corner is your favourite...?

Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist then so I'm using our anniversary as an excuse to share some of my favourite wedding photos.

I have so many happy memories from the day, but what I remember the most is all the laughter. And the funniest best men's (Chris had four!) speech I've ever heard. I wish we'd had a videographer just to capture that.

Anyway, thanks @small_round_things for the last eight years - and for the 13 before we actually got around to tying the knot!
