Home tour | An elegant Swedish apartment in soft shades of grey

Home tour | An elegant Swedish apartment in soft shades of grey | These Four Walls blog

It’s been a while since I last featured a home tour, but I couldn’t resist taking a little break from Christmas-related posts to share this beautiful Swedish apartment.

Located in central Stockholm, it’s painted in soft shades of grey that give it an airy, elegant feel. The wall colours work beautifully with the pale parquet floor, and they’re offset by striking artworks, statement lighting (including a stunning ‘Vertigo’ pendant lamp by Constance Guisset for Petite Friture in the hallway) and plenty of iconic Scandinavian furniture.

The lounge is my favourite space – calming and very inviting. The clean-lined sofas and sleek Asplund ‘Tati’ tables are paired with a woven easy chair and an intricate wooden ‘Collect’ cabinet from A2 Designers; HAY’s ‘Dot’ cushions, a HAY ‘Crinkle’ throw and velvet cushions in muted olive green add subtle touches of warmth and colour. The eye-catching glass light creates a sculptural focal point, and on the side table is a resin-covered ‘Gatto’ lamp, which emits a soft, diffused glow that’s perfect for evening relaxation. An oversized potted plant and a snuggly Moroccan rug make the perfect finishing touches.

The kitchen, reached through double doors which allow the living spaces to be opened up or separated, is just as beautiful. The matte-grey cupboard doors, black fittings and understated white tiles contrast with the textured wooden table and the woven seats of the Fredericia ‘J39’ chairs, first designed by Børge Mogensen back in 1947 and dubbed the ‘People’s Chairs’ due to their simple, unfussy aesthetic. A pair of ‘Ambit’ pendant lights by Muuto complete the scheme.

In the master bedroom, an understated linen headboard, a bank of built-in cupboards and wall-hung bedside tables (try Muuto’s ‘Stacked’ system if you’re looking for a similar design) create a tranquil and clutter-free atmosphere. A trio of Nelson ‘Bubble’ pendant lights provide a focal point above the bed, and French windows lead out onto a balcony with a pair of white IKEA ‘HÖGSTEN’ garden chairs – a lovely spot for morning coffee or an evening glass of wine.

Last but not least are the children’s bedrooms, where soft pink accents, star garlands and a Vita ‘EOS’ feather lightshade produce a whimsical yet stylish look. And this being Scandinavia, design classics feature even in the kids’ spaces – most notably Hans J. Wegner’s CH24 ‘Wishbone’ chair, a String ‘Pocket’ shelving system and another ‘Gatto’ lamp.

Snaps from a lovely long weekend in leafy Richmond Snaps from a lovely long weekend in leafy Richmond, West London. I've spent many happy times there over the years as one of my closest friends lives there, but she's about to move house. So, Chris and I made the most of our last visit before she relocates - and the weather was certainly kind to us!

Some photos of the gorgeous @a.__gallery, which I Some photos of the gorgeous @a.__gallery, which I visited on a recent trip to the Netherlands. Isn't it beautiful? Calm, textural and layered, with handmade pieces by an array of independent artists and artisans.

I've also interviewed Holly, founder of the gallery and interior design studio @avenue.design.studio, on my blog. I've always admired the elegant, timeless spaces she creates, and the way she reflects the architectural context of each setting. I first met her in person last year, when I featured her own home in my book, and I've since worked with her on another exciting project that I can't wait to share soon...

I missed the opening event for this last year, so it was great to finally have a look around in person. The light is stunning, as is GUBI's selection of contemporary and classic designs - including the sculptural and futuristic F300 lounge chair, first designed by Pierre Paulin in the 1960s and recently relaunched.

Which room or corner is your favourite...?

Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist then so I'm using our anniversary as an excuse to share some of my favourite wedding photos.

I have so many happy memories from the day, but what I remember the most is all the laughter. And the funniest best men's (Chris had four!) speech I've ever heard. I wish we'd had a videographer just to capture that.

Anyway, thanks @small_round_things for the last eight years - and for the 13 before we actually got around to tying the knot!
