Hotel des Galeries | Brussels

Hotel des Galeries | Brussels | These Four Walls blog

As autumn drizzle begins to set in here in the UK, I thought I’d try to cheer everyone up by sharing a few photos of the wonderfully bright, fresh interiors at this Belgian boutique hotel, which has just popped onto my radar.

Hidden behind a listed façade in 19th-century Brussels shopping arcade Les Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert, its 23 rooms, communal library and ground-floor restaurant have been beautifully styled by designer Fleur Delesalle and architect and ceramicist Camille Flammarion. Throughout, they’ve paired white walls and pale floors with a few splashes of colour, carefully introduced through textiles, artwork and bespoke side tables so as not to overpower the uncluttered feel. Furniture is a lovely mix of vintage pieces from the 50s and 60s, along with contemporary designs from Belgian names such as Sylvain Zillenz and Zangra. The bathrooms are particularly swish, with sleek geometric tiles (a different pattern in every room) beneath rough wooden beams that highlight the building’s history.

The overall scheme is somehow both calming and vibrant, and could easily be transplanted into a home. It makes me want to rush out to find a few colourful pieces to brighten up my own grey-heavy house – and book a Eurostar ticket for a sneaky Belgian minibreak!

P.S. I was over the moon to be nominated for ‘Best Newcomer’ in the Amara Interior Blog Awards, and voting is open for another two days. I would be so grateful if you could spare a moment to vote for These Four Walls if you haven’t already (and if you think it’s worthy, of course!). It only takes a few seconds, and you’ll be entered into a draw to win a holiday to Italy’s Amalfi Coast.

What a gorgeous hotel! How do I not know about this?! Seriously, I’ve been in Brussels for almost three years now and can’t believe I’ve missed this gem! My other fave if you get a chance to check it out is Hotel Esperance in Brussels – it has modern rooms (with cheeky flock wallpaper) but also an original 1930s bar with tonnes of original art deco features.

It’s quite a new hotel I think… I’ve heard good things about its restaurant too. And thanks for the recommendation – I can feel a trip to Brussels coming on! X

Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist then so I'm using our anniversary as an excuse to share some of my favourite wedding photos.

I have so many happy memories from the day, but what I remember the most is all the laughter. And the funniest best men's (Chris had four!) speech I've ever heard. I wish we'd had a videographer just to capture that.

Anyway, thanks @small_round_things for the last eight years - and for the 13 before we actually got around to tying the knot!

I now have this design in three different colourways around the house, and this is definitely my favourite to date!

I've been a fan of their sustainable bamboo kitchens and furniture for a long time, so this was a real treat. And the space itself is full of the time-worn textures and beautiful details that always catch my eye.
