Whenever I post an Instagram photo showing my living room, I get lots of messages asking where I bought the round mirror which hangs over the fireplace (shown above). Sadly it’s an old IKEA one that’s no longer available to buy, so I thought I’d devote my latest ‘best of’ round-up to showcasing some of the many alternatives on the market.
As always I’ve tried to include options for every budget, so there are some bargains alongside investment pieces by the likes of HAY and Menu. There’s also a range of different sizes to help you find something to suit, whether you want a statement mirror to sit above a mantelpiece or something smaller for a bedroom or bathroom.

And here’s a closer look at a few of my favourites…
The ‘Strap’ mirror by HAY
Perhaps one of the most recognisable mirror designs around, HAY‘s ‘Strap’ mirror has a groove around the edge which supports a sturdy rubber hanging strap. It comes in 50cm and 70cm diameters and two colours, light grey and ‘Army’ (a muted grey-green). The fact that the strap is made from rubber means it’s a great option for humid rooms such as bathrooms and wet rooms, but I think it looks especially good hung above fireplaces.
The ‘Enter’ mirror by Ferm Living
A collaboration between Ferm Living and New York-based Soren Rose Studio, the ‘Enter’ mirror combines classic and contemporary influences. A simple glass circle is topped with a section of powder-coated metal, and the tan leather hanging strap adds an eye-catching twist. It comes in two sizes (26cm and 45cm) and works brilliantly in bedrooms and hallways.
The ‘Darkly’ mirror by Menu
Created for Menu by Swedish-Scottish designer Nick Ross, ‘Darkly’ was inspired by the shallow bowls of water which historians believe may have been used as early mirrors during the late Stone Age. It comes in three diameters (20cm, 40cm and 60cm), with a choice between brushed aluminium and brushed brass for the frame. I love the way it protrudes from the wall, and I think it looks particularly striking when hung in clusters to form a display.
The ‘Wall Mirror’ by Moebe
I’m a huge fan of Danish brand Moebe‘s simple yet ingenious designs, and the ‘Wall Mirror’ is one of my favourites. Founders Anders Thams, Nicholas Oldroyd and Martin D. Christensen stripped it down to its essential elements, leaving only a single piece of glass suspended from a lightweight wire form. It comes in three diameters (30cm, 50cm and 70cm), with a choice of black, white or solid-brass wires; there’s also a full-length oval version, plus a standing mirror on an understated wire base.

Nice one. I would also add Muuto’s rose-gold mirror.
