I’m about to sign off for the festive break, but before I do I want to share a peek at this year’s Christmas table styling.
I’m hosting this time around, so I wanted to create a magical tablescape that’s still in keeping with my minimalist style and neutral decor. As with the decorations in the rest of the house, I’ve gone for a nature-inspired look using earthy beiges and browns, with a bit of added sparkle and a dusting of snowy white.
For the centrepiece, I’ve used a flower frog to create an ikebana-style arrangement that ties in with the fireplace display in the living room. There are sprigs of preserved pine and moss, some dried seed heads, and a few sculptural bare branches for height. As there’s nothing fresh, it doesn’t need any water and will stay looking good throughout the festive period – in fact I might move it to the side table by the sofa once the main gatherings are over so that I can enjoy it for a few more days!
I’ve decided to add a bit of elegance to the napkins by tying them with ribbon, opting for a silky brown fabric that echoes the colour of the centrepiece and contrasts nicely with the raw beige linen. Tucking a dried seed head and a sprig of fir cut from the back of the Christmas tree into each one adds another special little touch.
Candles are of course a must on any Christmas table and I’ve used my favourite tapered dinner candles from Danish brand Ester & Erik [AD – affiliate link], choosing beige, brown and ivory tones that again tie in with the rest of the decor. I always think candles work best in groups of differing heights, and odd numbers tend to look better to the eye. So, I’ve arranged mine in two clusters of three, placing them in varied chrome-plated holders from Lind DNA [AD – affiliate link] to create a layered effect and setting them at either side of the centrepiece and pendant lamp in the middle.
The final touches are pine cones and a few tealights in little glass holders, dotted around the table to add extra interest and fill any gaps. Now all I need are the guests, and I can’t wait to welcome my parents, my mother in law, one of my brothers and his wife to our house on Christmas Eve.
That’s it from me for this year. Thanks so much for reading this blog in 2023, and for all the support on social media. I’ll be back with lots more content in 2024, but in the meantime have a wonderful Christmas and a very happy New Year!
