Spring is approaching and many of my favourite brands have started releasing details of their new-season collections, meaning I have plenty of gorgeous pieces to share with you in this month’s round-up of minimalist design finds. There are sculptural lamps and accessories, versatile furniture for today’s multifunctional homes and a couple of very exciting collaborations. Just read on for details…

A beautiful pendant lIGHT from Vipp

I’m starting with Vipp, whose marble-based ‘Sculpture’ table lamp has now been joined by a matching pendant. Created using centuries-old mouth-blowing techniques, it’s formed from layers of white and frosted glass, ensuring a uniform and very cosy distribution of light. The grooved shade gives it an air of nostalgic elegance, while the metal rod at its core adds a contemporary twist. It looks stunning over tables, kitchen islands and seating areas, and works equally well in pairs or trios as it does on its own. The pendant will be available in stores and online from March, priced at £455 / €505.

PORTABLE LAMPS FROM New Works

Lamps also make up the latest additions at another of my favourite Danish brands, New Works. For spring 2023, they’ve launched two new portable designs: a wireless version of the existing bubble-like ‘Karl-Johan’, and the sleek yet gently whimsical ‘Brolly’. The former comes in several colours and is made from impact-resistant, water-repellent polyethylene, meaning it’s ideal for use indoors and out. The latter has an elegant linen or black aluminium cone-shaped shade, plus a clever magnetic pad that allows it to remain in use while charging.

In addition to the above, the ever-popular ‘Kizu’ portable lamp is now available in two new red marble variants – one using Breccia Pernice marble, which brings to mind the earthy terracotta hues of the Mediterranean, and the other the darker and more dramatic Rosso Levanto. Both add a subtle hint of colour and work with neutral and vibrant decor alike.

A trio of CERAMIC lamps from 101 Copenhagen

Again sticking with lighting, 101 Copenhagen has revealed three graphic ceramic table lamps created by Kristian Sofus Hansen and Tommy Hyldahl. The mushroom-shaped ‘Fungus’ is a reinterpretation of the futuristic lighting designs of the 1960s and 70s, as is ‘Le Deux’, which is characterised by a pair of oval lampshades that merge into one another while casting light in different directions. The ‘Cobra’ lamp, meanwhile, is a tribute to the COBRA arts movement of the late 1940s and early 1950s, reflecting its focus on naive shapes and organic, body-like silhouettes. All are minimalist yet playful, and celebrate the beauty of the natural material used. They’re available to buy now, priced at €269, €199 and €149 respectively.

Multifunctional furniture from Noo.ma

I’ve long been a fan of the versatile, reasonably priced pieces from Polish brand Noo.ma – in fact I’ve used them in several client interiors projects. They’ve just introduced a raft of new designs and several in particular caught my attention. Made from oak veneer, the ‘Tann’ wall-hung bedside shelf (£188 / €189) is a great alternative to traditional nightstands where space is tight and is available in left- and right-hand variants. Just as adaptable is the bent-steel ‘Hes’ shelving unit (£841 / €849), which comes in red and grey and can be used as a TV stand, a bookcase or a coffee table. I also love the clean, minimalist lines of the ‘Hett’ oak dining table (£1,386 / €1,399) and matching bench (£594 / €599), which can double as a desk and coffee table, and the curvaceous, softly upholstered ‘Rull’ bench (£495 / €499). All are on sale now, and Noo.ma ships to numerous countries around the world.

A NEW COLLECTION from Malte Gormsen & Norm Architects

Next up is Danish cabinetmaker and joiner Malte Gormsen, who has partnered with Norm Architects to launch a curated collection of furniture and accessories. The selection builds on bespoke designs created for Norm’s residential and commercial projects, several of which I’ve featured here over the years, and mixes striking forms with beautiful materials. Standouts for me include the geometric ‘MG406’ stool and side table in marble or hand-turned oak; the large brass, iron or copper ‘MG407’ sculpture; and the stunning ‘MG210’ dining table, originally made for the Sandbjerg Residence in northern Zealand. A MINIMALIST vase from T.D.C. x Città

Last but not least is my friend Michelle Halford, the Auckland-based interior stylist and designer behind blog The Design Chaser. She’s teamed up with New Zealand furniture and homeware brand Città to create the ‘Terrace’ vase – a minimalist yet highly sculptural piece inspired by architectural terraces. Made from clay in Portugal, it’s composed of two semi-circular tiers on a cylindrical base and looks just as stunning empty as it does filled with flowers or foliage. It comes in white, beige and brick-red, all priced at NZ$149, and can be shipped to New Zealand, Australia and the US.
