Yep, it’s November already, and that means it’s time for my regular round-up of new interior design finds and minimalist product launches. In this month’s edition you’ll find timeless lighting, elegant dinner candles in beautiful colours, and a range of limewash paint inspired by four European cities. There’s also a collection of stunning fronts to customise standard IKEA kitchen units, plus a limited-edition twist on an iconic modular furniture range. Just read on for details…
Timeless lighting from Rebello Decor
First up is a brand-new name for me: Rebello Decor. This Danish lighting brand was launched earlier this year by designer Maria Thygesen, who wanted to counter the ‘use-and-throw-away’ culture by creating refined, timeless pieces that will endure for generations to come. Her debut collection pairs solid brass – a material chosen for its lasting appeal – with hand-blown opal-glass spheres, and encompasses wall lamps and pendants named ‘Eternal Moonlight’ plus the ‘Circle of Life’ chandelier. The latter is particularly beautiful thanks to its undulating curves and organic forms, which were inspired by life’s ups and downs, and was named a ‘Design Favourite of the Year’ by Bo Bedere magazine. The wall lamps and pendants, meanwhile, take their cue from the mystery of the moon and feature a striking brass band around their centre. All are available in several sizes, with prices starting at €510.
Stylish candles from Audo Copenhagen
Now for lighting of a different kind thanks to Audo Copenhagen (formerly Menu), which has just unveiled a collection of elegant dinner candles to complement the range of scented candles it launched last year. There are two designs: ‘Spire’, which is a slender, smooth-sided take on the classic candle shape, and ‘Twist’, which adds a sense of movement through a winding architectural silhouette. Both are made from plant-based wax, with a choice of earthy colours that mean they look just as stylish unlit as they do aglow, and burn for up to 10 hours. They’re priced at €36 / £31 for a set of six ‘Smooth’ candles and €34 / £30 for a pack of four ‘Twist’ candles.
A limited-edition olive green colourway from USM
Swiss company USM Modular Furniture has just released a special-edition olive green colourway for its iconic ‘Haller’ range, designed by architect Fritz Haller in 1963. Available for a limited time only across the storage unit, sideboard, media unit and serving trolley, it’s a beautiful and surprisingly versatile hue – neither too warm nor too cool, with a slightly muddy quality that offsets the modernist lines and chrome-plated steel tubes perfectly. USM hasn’t added a permanent colour to its collection since 1995, so the olive green pieces are certain to become collectors’ items – and every purchase comes with a complimentary pair of martini glasses from Austrian glassware brand Riedal. Prices range from £734 / €847 for the trolley to £2,016 / €2,325 for the sideboard.
Inga Sempé’s ‘COLUMN’ collection for Reform
Newly unveiled by Copenhagen-based international kitchen company Reform is ‘COLUMN’, a stunning collection of unit fronts created by French designer Inga Sempé. Rejecting the notion that kitchens are inherently angular, they embrace roundedness and materiality, pairing subtly curved corners with monolithic central handles that can match or contrast as desired. The result is harmonious yet eclectic, with a choice between natural oak, white ash, ‘Dark Umbra’, ‘Fresh Cream’, ‘Pistachio’ and ‘Concrete’ finishes. Like all Reform’s collections, the fronts can be made to fit its own cupboard carcasses or IKEA’s standard ‘METOD’ system, and there’s an array of worktop options and add-ons to select from, too.
limewash paint from The Hoxton x Bauwerk
Last but not least is Bauwerk, known for its eco-friendly limewash paint. It’s teamed up with boutique hotel group The Hoxton to launch the ‘Neighbourhood Collection’ – a range of nine new colours inspired by four favourite Hoxton locations: Berlin, Edinburgh, Amsterdam and Barcelona. The hues range from neutrals to more vibrant blues and oranges, but all have the gorgeous texture and earthiness that you’d expect from Bauwerk. My personal favourites are ‘Haymarket’, named after the Edinburgh district and inspired by its weathered sandstone buildings; ‘Casa’, a warming terracotta that references the sun-bleached, peach-pink pigments of Barcelona; and the versatile green-grey ‘House’, which acts as a bridging colour for the rest of the collection. All nine colours are available to buy now, priced at £12.50 for a 250ml sample pot, £30 for a 1L tin and £140 for a 5L tin.
