New designs from Kristina Dam

New designs from Kristina Dam | These Four Walls blog

Details of upcoming autumn-winter homeware collections are already beginning to trickle through and I’ll be sharing some of my favourites over the coming weeks. As always, my aim isn’t to make you want to rush out and buy lots of new things, or feel pressured into following trends (you can read my views on those here), but simply to provide a bit of inspiration. After all, you never know when you might stumble across an interesting idea for your home, or that perfect finishing touch you’ve been searching for.

The first new-season collection to catch my eye this time around comes from Copenhagen-based Kristina Dam, whose work I’ve admired for years. She’s known for her minimalist, sculptural style, often inspired by her background in graphic design and architecture, and many of her pieces feature strong lines and geometric shapes. There’s also a wonderful mix of materials, with smooth glass, marble and metal sitting alongside tactile earthenware, leather, textiles and wood.

Among her latest designs is a stunning lighting range, which encompasses matt-black lamps for the wall, floor and table. All offset bold, rectangular frames with LED bulbs that emit a soft ambient glow, and some feature contrasting cylindrical or sphere-shaped bases, too. They’re incredibly versatile, and I love the way they balance form and function so neatly.

New furniture additions include a white version of the existing perforated-steel ‘Grid’ cabinet, as well as the ‘Arch’ side table, which comes in a taller tobacco-brown option and a longer, lower beige one. They can be used on their own or paired together, and they create a simple yet very striking effect. The powder-coated steel ‘Bauhaus’ furniture collection has also been extended to encompass a table, dining chair and bench, all available in black or white and suitable for indoor and outdoor use. In some of the press photos they’re styled in a waterside meadow, and the contrast between their graphic forms and the gently waving grasses is beautiful.

Accessories-wise, there are two new sculptures – the arched, multi-section ‘Cupola’ and the sleek, sphere-shaped ‘Globe’, both of which come in a choice of colours and sizes. Curves also feature in the ‘Arch’ candleholders and double-layered mouth-blown ‘Opal’ bowls, while the ‘Sandstone’ desk organisers take their cue from the angles of ancient buildings.

My absolute favourites, though, are the ‘Architecture’ cushions and throws, which are available in a range of grey, beige and off-white colourways. They’re adorned with simple patterns inspired by architectural blueprints, and I love the way the crinkled cotton fabric of the throw contrasts with the straight lines. In fact I like them so much I’ve already started dropping a few hints to my husband ahead of my birthday next month…

Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist then so I'm using our anniversary as an excuse to share some of my favourite wedding photos.

I have so many happy memories from the day, but what I remember the most is all the laughter. And the funniest best men's (Chris had four!) speech I've ever heard. I wish we'd had a videographer just to capture that.

Anyway, thanks @small_round_things for the last eight years - and for the 13 before we actually got around to tying the knot!

I now have this design in three different colourways around the house, and this is definitely my favourite to date!

A few weeks ago I travelled to Drammen in Norway f A few weeks ago I travelled to Drammen in Norway for the big project I'm working on (more on that soon), and while I was there I had a look around @askogeng's workshop. I've been a fan of their sustainable bamboo kitchens and furniture for a long time, so this was a real treat. And the space itself is full of the time-worn textures and beautiful details that always catch my eye.
