It’s time for another round-up of new designs and product launches that have grabbed my attention over recent weeks. For 2018 I’ve decided to shake things up a bit and include not just furniture and home accessories, but also other things that catch my eye – everything from skincare and books to new hotel, shop and restaurant openings.
So, here are my top finds this month…
The ‘DELAKTIG’ series by Tom Dixon x IKEA
First up is an exciting collaboration between Tom Dixon and IKEA, which is set to launch later in February. Called ‘DELAKTIG’ (Swedish for ‘involvement’), it consists of upholstered aluminium platforms which can be configured as sofas, beds, daybeds and footstools. There’s also a selection of add-on accessories, including armrests, backrests, lamps and clip-on side tables. It was designed to provide a versatile, affordable solution to small-space living and comes in a range of mix-and-match blue and grey colours. I particularly like the understated, clean-lined aesthetic, which will sit well in all sorts of different settings.
The ‘Gradient’ collection from Mleko Living
I first featured the minimalist ceramics and linens from Polish design studio Mleko Living last year, and they’ve just released another beautiful collection. Called ‘Gradient’, it consists of a plate, a mug and cups in three sizes, all with ombre glazing in pretty pastel colours. They’re hand-made from durable, dishwasher-safe stoneware by Mleko founders Katarzyna and Michał, and every piece is designed around a sphere that sits comfortably in the hand.
New designs from By Lassen
Next is Danish company By Lassen, which owns rights to the designs of famed architects Flemming and Morgens Lassen and often creates original pieces inspired by their work. It has just revealed details of several new products, and two in particular caught my eye. The first is the ‘Kubus’ vase, which joins the iconic ‘Kubus’ range of candleholders and bowls and was created to celebrate the brand’s tenth anniversary. The second is the upholstered ‘Lassen’ chair, whose playful shape is an ode to both Flemming Lassen’s love of organic silhouettes and Mogens Lassen’s appreciation for stringent contours. Both will be available to buy from this month.
New twists on the classic Lyngby vase
Staying with Danish brands, Lyngby Porcelæn also has some intriguing new pieces coming up this spring. Over the years the company has regularly updated its signature vase with new colours and materials, and last year it even launched a table lamp based on the shape. For 2018 it’s extending the range once again with an eye-catching spin that incorporates a free-running gloss glaze in white, black or rose-pink. There’s also a series of candleholders created by Cecilie Toklum and Robert Larsen of design studio Formgiverne, who have applied the vase’s familiar grooved surface and elegant proportions to a brand-new application.
The first hand-care range from Skandinavisk
I was very excited to hear that candle brand Skandinavisk is launching a collection of hand-care products featuring four of its most popular scents: ‘FJORD’, ‘LEMPI’ (‘love’), ‘ØY’ (‘island’) and ‘RO’ (‘tranquility’). Made in Denmark with natural extracts, the range includes hand wash, hand cream, hand lotion and foaming bar soap, all created to nourish and protect exposed skin. I was lucky enough to receive some samples earlier this week, and they smell amazing!
A few other things I’ve spotted…
- Scandinavian Style at Home – a brilliant book written by Allan Torp of Bungalow 5, which guides you through how to create Scandinavian interiors, one room at a time
- The gorgeous notebooks, calendars and planners from Copenhagen-based Notem Studio, now available in some stunning new colours
- Arctic Bath – a floating spa on Sweden’s Lule River being created by the people behind the famous Tree Hotel
- Nourish Cakes – the first book from Bristol-based baker Marianne Stewart, with beautifully photographed recipes for healthy cakes and other bakes (including many that are suitable for those with allergies and intolerances)
- I•BU – a just-opened Asian fusion restaurant in Copenhagen, with interiors designed by Ferm Living. I can’t wait to try it next time I’m in town!
