Well, February seemed to whizz past in the blink of an eye! For me, it began and ended with snow – firstly in Sweden, where I was attending the Stockholm Furniture Fair and Stockholm Design Week (read more about that here), and then back home in Bristol, where we had a full-on blizzard that brought everything to a standstill. But it’s a new month and a new season, and there’s already a hint of warmer weather in the air. So, here’s a round-up of recent finds to get spring off to a good start…
New launches from Stelton
I’m starting with Stelton, which has debuted several designs for spring. My favourites are the terracotta and nude colourways (very on trend!) for the ‘Emma’ kettle, pitcher and vacuum jug, created by Danish duo HolmbäckNordentoft, and the ‘Emma’ water glasses in beautiful grey-toned glass. Other new additions include a lunch plate and mug for the iconic ‘Theo’ range, and a teapot for Daniel Debiasi and Federico Sandri’s elegant ‘Collar’ series. There’s also a sculptural vase collection called ‘Hoop’, made from midnight-blue glass and inspired by Danish glassware of the 1950s.
Forestrywool blankets
Next up is Utrecht-based Forestrywool, which makes minimalist lambswool blankets with striking graphic patterns. It’s not a company I’ve featured before, but I was instantly smitten with its new-season collection, which has been beautifully styled and photographed by w/ Style (a joint venture from Vosgesparis and beeldSTEIL). Alongside the brand’s signature palette of chalky pinks and creams, it features rich, earthy tones such as ochre and forest green, plus muted greys and blacks that I’m already coveting for my own home.
Online interiors shop In My Corner
I was very excited to hear about brand-new online interiors shop In My Corner, which has just opened for business. It was founded by Metro Media House in collaboration with 15 Scandinavian designers and already stocks a wide range of wall art, with lighting, ceramics and textiles due to follow soon. It looks promising, and the launch images, styled by Swedish duo SundlingKickén and photographed by Kristofer Johnsson, are certainly a feast for the eyes…
Handmade furniture from Estate Studio
Also newly launched is Estate Studio, whose wooden furniture has an understated mid-century aesthetic that draws on Scandinavian and Japanese influences. It’s based just outside my own city of Bristol and was founded on the principle that furniture should be built to last for decades to come. All its pieces are functional and timeless, with high-quality joinery and beautiful finishes. I particularly love the look of the chests of drawers, the elegant desks and the upholstered lounge chairs.
Stoneware from Ania Design
Finally, Danish studio Ania Design, which was founded in 2015 by graphic designer Anja Skov, has released a stunning stoneware collection featuring minimalist shapes and earthy colours. There are vases, dishes, storage jars, candleholders and more, all available in sand, rust-brown, light grey, dark grey and white with a speckled finish. Prices start from DKK250 (about £30 / €34), and I’ve already got my eye on several pieces…
A few other things on my radar…
- The spring-summer 2018 issue of 91 Magazine, which I’ve contributed to. It’s now available for pre-order and is packed with beautiful homes, inspiring interviews, seasonal recipes and more…
- The Florist – a brand-new bar and restaurant in Bristol, with flower-themed cocktails, seasonal food and regular events covering everything from floristry to gin-tasting. More locations around the UK are set to open soon, too…
- ‘LYKKE’ – a new candle and diffuser range from Skandinavisk. The name is the Danish word for happiness, and the scent is an uplifting blend of snowdrops, lemon-nettle and apple-mint that’s perfect for spring
- A handy guide to creating a capsule wardrobe for the new season, courtesy of fellow blogger Jessica Rose Williams. She’s also about to launch a free capsule-wardrobe e-course and you can sign up at the bottom of her post
- The Ideal Home Show, which takes place in London from 17th March to 2nd April. I’ll be covering it on Instagram Stories, so keep an eye out for lots of interiors inspiration…
