New furniture & homeware finds | Christmas 2016

New furniture & homeware finds | Christmas 2016 | These Four Walls blog

It’s around this time each month that I normally share a round-up of interesting furniture and homeware finds, but as the festive season is very nearly upon us, I’ve decided to do something a bit different today. So, instead of the usual product launches and design news, here’s a peek at the 2016 Christmas collections from some of my favourite brands. There’s a lot to get through, so grab a coffee and settle in for a big dollop of seasonal inspiration…

Brass and geometric shapes at Ferm Living

Danish stalwart Ferm Living has put together a striking, minimalist take on Christmas styling. Created by artist Leise Dich Abrahamsen, its latest festive range reinterprets traditional winter motifs such as birds, fir trees and stars. The materials blend simplicity and a bit of sparkle, with textured wood and lots of glittering brass. There are also cotton stockings and tree skirts with printed geometric patterns.

Muted greys and blues at Hübsch

Another Danish brand, Hübsch, has designed a beautiful Christmas collection featuring a spectrum of whites, greys and blues, along with carved wooden stars and hints of metallic sheen. I particularly love the delicate hand-blown glass baubles, some of which have groved surfaces or clever globes-within-globes.

Blush pinks and reds at Broste Copenhagen

Broste Copenhagen has opted for a slightly more colourful approach, with dusty blush pinks and warm rust reds offset by dark grey, ochre and gold. Much of the collection uses paper, and my eye was instantly drawn to the multi-layer fold-out trees and intricate origami stars. Rattan and felt elements provide added texture.

Monochrome minimalism at House Doctor

House Doctor has a sleek, monochrome Christmas collection that will appeal to fans of classic Scandinavian simplicity. Many of the designs – stockings, table runners, gift wrap – feature black and white stripes or checks, which look fantastic next to sprigs of seasonal greenery and touches of gold. There are also clean-lined candleholders, and marble-like baubles with a glossy surface that reflects twinkling lights.

Natural materials and candlelight at Rowen & Wren

Finally, Rowen & Wren’s festive range is understated and relaxed, with a focus on natural textures. There are raw-edge linen stars, willow tree skirts, reels of rattan twine, and metallic garlands with rich, mottled patinas. My favourite items are the candleholders, which include hanging glass lanterns, brass and zinc candlesticks with an air of centuries past, and ingenious candle stakes which can be spiked into planters filled with festive foliage.

Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist then so I'm using our anniversary as an excuse to share some of my favourite wedding photos.

I have so many happy memories from the day, but what I remember the most is all the laughter. And the funniest best men's (Chris had four!) speech I've ever heard. I wish we'd had a videographer just to capture that.

Anyway, thanks @small_round_things for the last eight years - and for the 13 before we actually got around to tying the knot!

I now have this design in three different colourways around the house, and this is definitely my favourite to date!

I've been a fan of their sustainable bamboo kitchens and furniture for a long time, so this was a real treat. And the space itself is full of the time-worn textures and beautiful details that always catch my eye.
