New furniture & homeware finds | September 2017

I’ve been sharing some of my favourite new-season collections over the last couple of weeks, and there are still a few more to come. But there have also been plenty of exciting individual product launches during the past month or two, so here’s a round-up of some that have grabbed my attention…

‘Floating Leaves’ by Moebe, Norm Architects and Paper Collective

This botanic print series is a collaboration between three Copenhagen-based design companies: Moebe, Paper Collective and Norm Architects. It was created especially for Moebe’s ingenious see-through frame and uses UV printing, which allows photographs to be printed onto transparent foil. The series aims to capture plants at various stages of beauty and decay, as Jonas Bjerre Poulsen of Norm Architects explains: “The ‘Floating Leaves’ were inspired by the gathering of botanic samples and classic botanic illustration. Playing with a mix of fresh greens and elements of decay, they become an expression of passing time and changing seasons. Through the transparency of the print and frame, the leaves get a unique sense of multi-dimensionality rarely achieved in printed products.”

There are nine prints to choose from, and they look stunning clustered together in windows or hung from ceilings. They’re available to buy online from Paper Collective, with prices starting at €17.95 for an unframed print and €94.95 for a framed one.

New editions of Fredericia’s iconic ‘Stingray’ chair

Family-owned Danish furniture brand Fredericia has just launched two new versions of its famous ‘Stingray’ rocking chair: white and dark grey with a smooth matte finish.

First designed by Thomas Pedersen in 2002, the ‘Stingray’ was inspired by the fluid form of the sea and the organic shapes of marine life. It merges a chair and footstool, with a cocooning seat and long wings that enable to you curl up and sprawl out in comfort. The new options are beautiful additions to the range of existing colourways, and look fantastic paired with one of the optional neck cushions and sheepskin throws. Both are available from this month, with prices starting at €1,845.

Expanded range and new home fragrances from Laura Thomas

Scotland-based blogger and retailer Laura Thomas has expanded her range to include a wider selection of stylish, ethically produced homeware. Originally focused on bedding, she now also offers a selection of beautiful blankets, towels, soaps and home fragrances. I particularly love the look of her hand-poured scented candles, which include jasmine, lavender, orange and cedarwood, lime and basil, and the ‘Blooming Marvellous’ green-tea candle (£19), created in collaboration with Edinburgh tea shop Eteaket and infused with leaves and petals.

A special anniversary edition of Stelton’s EM77 vacuum jug

Stelton is marking the 40th anniversary of its EM77 vacuum jug with the launch of a special-edition metallic finish. The iconic design was first created in 1977 by Erik Magnussen, who devised a rocker-stopper mechanism so that the jug can be opened and poured with one hand (his thinking being that he wouldn’t need to put down his newspaper to top up his coffee!). The new finish echoes the steel used for the original before plastic versions appeared in 1979, and comes in black, dark brown and blue. It will be available from later this month and is priced at €124.95 / £109.

Pure linen bedding from the Secret Linen Store

Last but not least, some more news from the UK, where the Secret Linen Store has created its first collection of 100% linen bedding. I’m a huge fan of linen – it’s breathable,  soft and quick to dry (and it looks great crumpled, so you don’t need to iron it!) – and I’m pleased to see more affordable pure linen options coming onto the market. The range is available in white, navy blue and charcoal grey, and prices start at £15 for a pillowcase.
