Christmas may still be a little way off, but I know many people are already starting to think about festive decorations. So, in the name of blogging, I’ve taken the plunge and decked our halls a bit earlier than normal (I usually try to hold off until at leat the 1st of December) in order to provide some inspiration.
My Christmas decorations are heavily influenced by Nordic style, and I tend to shy away from anything overly glittery or gaudy. This year I’m focusing on simple shapes and muted colours, alongside lots of cosy candles and a few natural touches such as pine cones and seasonal greenery. My go-to shop for achieving this kind of look is Rose & Grey, and I spent an afternoon playing around with its beautiful Scandinavian-inspired range to come up with some easy-to-recreate ideas.
I started with a pair of simple metal stars, which look great hung against walls or doors. Inspired by Broste Copenhagen’s 2015 Christmas collection, I embellished them with a few sprigs of eucalyptus, held in place with a twist of floristry wire. I also added wooden stars picked up at a local craft shop, which I attached with dots of multi-purpose glue.
I then selected a few white and grey paper stars in different sizes. They’re perhaps my favourite decorations as they’re so versatile – you can hang them from walls, place them on fireplaces or shelves, or display them in windows. And, as they’re incredibly light, they only need a bit of masking tape to hold them in place, so there’s little risk of damaging paintwork or plaster.
Finally, I created a simple display by foraging some branches, spray-painting them white, and arranging them in a glass jar with a few baubles (true to form, I opted for understated grey marble and speckled white versions). I’ve used my arrangement as a table centrepiece, but it would also work brilliantly as an alternative Christmas tree for those who don’t have enough space for the real thing.
I’m really pleased with the results of my afternoon of festive faffing, and it’s nice to have a hint of Christmas in the house before the tree arrives next month. Do let me know what you think, and check back for more festive inspiration over the next few weeks…

This all looks so wonderful and cosy. I remember how understated and chic Copenhagen was when we visited for Christmas and New Year a couple of years ago. I loved it, this takes me back.
