Another beautiful new product line has popped onto my radar – the ‘Objects’ home accessories collection by Republic of Fritz Hansen (perhaps the most famous of any Danish furniture manufacturer, and the company behind a raft of classic pieces).
Launched at the recent Salon del Mobile in Milan, ‘Objects’ encompasses 12 simple yet striking items created by names such as Jaime Hayon, Wednesday Architecture and Studio Roso. All are designed to showcase high-quality craftsmanship and materials which are appealing to touch – cedar, cashmere, merino, brass.
There are throws and cushions, candle and tealight holders, stackable trays inspired by traditional Nordic bentwood boxes, and a variety of hand-blown vases with metal tops or wooden bases. Excitingly, the range also features two relaunched designs from the Fritz Hansen archives – Arne Jacobsen’s ‘DOT’ stool, created in 1954 and made using leather left over from the manufacture of his iconic ‘Egg’ and ‘Swan’ chairs, and Willumsen & Engholm’s foldable oak tray table from 1958.
Yet more Scandinavian design to add to my ever-increasing wishlist…
