Urban Jungle Bloggers | A ‘plant colour pop’

June 27, 2015

When the latest Urban Jungle Bloggers challenge – to place a plant in front of a vibrant background and really make it sing – arrived in my inbox a few weeks ago, I have to confess I was a little stumped. As you might have guessed from previous posts, colourful interiors really aren’t my thing, and my entire house is a rather muted affair in various shades of grey. What’s more, a busy month of . . .

A sleek and stylish Copenhagen base | Hotel SP34 | These Four Walls blog

Following last week’s top tips from Copenhagen (one of my all-time favourite cities), I want to share a few snaps of the beautifully designed hotel we stayed at during our recent trip: SP34. This place is packed with eye-candy for anyone interested in interiors: art-filled communal areas, mid-century classics throughout, and a few chic industrial touches (polished concrete, exposed pipework, . . .

Instagram Inspiration | Julia from Humphrey & Grace | These Four Walls blog

As it’s summer, I thought I’d take you on a little journey to the seaside for this month’s slice of Instagram inspiration – and, more specifically, to the dreamy feed of @juliabesidethesea. Julia, who blogs at Humphrey & Grace, lives on the south coast of England, and her photos are the stuff holiday dreams are made of: blue skies, bathing huts, sand and shells, interspersed with beautiful . . .

Sea-green and terracotta mugs by The Other Ducklyin | Weekend Rituals | These Four Walls blog

This Saturday is going to be a busy one for me as I’m off to London for the annual Blogtacular conference. I’m very excited about meeting inspirational bloggers from across the UK and beyond, and the date conveniently falls on the only clear weekend in a jam-packed month (I’ve just returned from Copenhagen and fly off to Oslo next week – more on those trips to follow soon). With so much going on, . . .

Profile - Openhouse | These Four Walls blog

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to win copies of the first two issues of Openhouse in a giveaway run by the lovely Lou of Littlegreenshed. It’s safe to say that I fell in love with this wonderful magazine as soon as I turned the cover: published twice a year, it features people across the world who open their homes to others for various reasons, and it’s produced by two Barcelona-based . . .

Home tour | A dark, dramatic house in Bristol

Home tour | A dark, dramatic home in Bristol | These Four Walls blog

I blogged last month about the look book of stylish Bristol homes that I’ve put together with independent estate agents Elephant, and now I want to share a peek inside one of the properties featured. This four-bedroom Victorian house in the leafy St Andrews area of the city is one of my favourites. I love the palette of delicously moody greys, which look fantastic against the tall sash windows . . .

Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist then so I'm using our anniversary as an excuse to share some of my favourite wedding photos.

I have so many happy memories from the day, but what I remember the most is all the laughter. And the funniest best men's (Chris had four!) speech I've ever heard. I wish we'd had a videographer just to capture that.

Anyway, thanks @small_round_things for the last eight years - and for the 13 before we actually got around to tying the knot!

Back on the grid after more than two weeks. Thanks Back on the grid after more than two weeks. Thanks to everyone who sent messages checking I was OK - I just lost my Instagram mojo and needed a bit of a break. Anyway, here are some phone-camera snippets of life lately...

1. Guard cat on duty while I work
2. Evening light hitting the last of the Japanese quince blossom in the garden
3. Country drives
4. Coming across 17th-century graffiti while house-hunting
5 & 6. A lazy Sunday stroll on Clevedon Pier, on one of those hazy days where the sea and sky seem to merge into one
7. Keeping drooping spring blooms going for as long as possible
8 & 9. Wisteria at @ntbarringtoncourt in Somerset
10. Brunch at the always-wonderful @lunitapasteleria
11. Enjoying the balmy spring breeze
12. Stunning mosaic floors at Chedworth Roman Villa in Gloucestershire
13. Bluebell season
14. My kind of wine
15. Wild garlic

I now have this design in three different colourways around the house, and this is definitely my favourite to date!

I've been a fan of their sustainable bamboo kitchens and furniture for a long time, so this was a real treat. And the space itself is full of the time-worn textures and beautiful details that always catch my eye.
