It may have been a short working week, but after a few long days in the office I’m very glad that Friday has rolled around once again. And what better way to celebrate the start of the weekend than a lazy evening of pampering?
With that in mind, I want to introduce you to a lovely range of bath and body products from British brand Plum & Ashby. The company was launched in 2013 by Vicky White, who came up with the idea for a modern take on the ‘general store’ while renovating her 200-year-old Bedfordshire cottage. Despite trawling markets and shops, she was unable to find things which would look good in a country home but which weren’t old-fashioned or fussy, so she decided to design her own.
The resulting collection of simple, elegant home accessories (many of which feature Vicky’s gorgeous fox terrier, Bertie) has been on my radar for a while now, but I wasn’t aware until recently that Plum & Ashby also stocks soaps, candles, bath salts and more. Vicky kindly sent me a selection to try out, so here are some of my favourites…
Seaweed & Samphire Scented Candle
Candles are an essential ingredient of luxurious bath times, and this one is wonderfully evocative: I could almost feel the sea breeze on my skin and hear waves crashing on the shore. It certainly blew away the cobwebs after a busy week! Made in the UK from natural oils, it combines the rich, salty smell of the ocean with the musky aroma of samphire – and, unlike many scented candles, it’s not cloying or overly floral. The amber glass holder looks fantastic, too.
Lavender Bath Salts
While the candle took me straight to the seaside, this bath soak instantly transported me to the rolling lavender fields of Provence. It contains dried flowers, whose heady scent calmed my mind and muscles, and salt which naturally cleanses the skin without causing dryness or irritation. I could have happily wallowed in the water for ages…
Green Fig & Lavender Hand & Body Lotion
The relaxing scent of lavender also features in this silky body lotion, along with woody notes of Mediterranean fig. Beautifully packaged in brown glass, it was quickly absorbed and left my skin feeling soft and soothed. And I loved the subtle fragrance, which lingered for hours afterwards.
Head over to Plum & Ashby’s website to see the full range. There’s a beautiful blog to browse, too, along with plenty of photos of the lovely Bertie!
