Few things beat climbing into a bed piled with fresh bedding, but finding the right set can be tricky. The vast array of options on the market is confusing (pre-washed linen, non pre-washed linen, cotton with umpteen different thread counts, even bedding made from bamboo fibres), and most of the time it’s impossible to tell whether they’ve been ethically made. So, when just-launched company Bedfolk got in touch promising luxury bedding without the luxury price tag, I was certainly keen to try it out (they’ve also kindly offered a 15% discount to my readers – just scroll down for details).
Bedfolk was founded by couple Nick and Jo, who live not too far from me in Gloucestershire, southwest England. They came up with the idea when they tried to buy bedding for their own home and struggled to find a range that offered both good quality and good value. So, they decided to create their own.
The concept is simple. Bedfolk sells just three types of bedding in three beautifully understated colours: ‘snow’ (pure white), ‘mist’ (a pale silvery grey) and ‘rose’ (a soft blush pink). All retail at the same price and are woven from the same high-quality cotton by a family-run Portuguese mill, but they have very different looks and feels. The ‘Classic’ option is crisp and smooth (Nick and Jo describe it as ‘like the perfect shirt’), ‘Luxe’ is designed to resemble silk without being overly shiny or delicate, and ‘Relaxed’ has the laid-back, gently crumpled appearance of linen.
If you’re not sure which to go for, Bedfolk can send out swatches to help you choose. Then, it’s a just case of ordering a duvet set (£99-£119) or a bedding bundle with a sheet included (£149-£189), and choosing whether or not to add extra pillowcases.
I’m normally a big fan of linen bedding so I opted for a ‘Relaxed’ bundle in ‘snow’, with additional pillowcases in ‘mist’. They arrived just a couple of days later, beautifully packaged in tissue paper and a reusable drawstring bag, and I couldn’t wait to get them on the bed.
I’m delighted with the way the bedding looks – very similar to linen, but much cheaper. It’s just as comfortable, too: a bout of illness means I’ve had plenty of opportunity to put it to the test over the last couple of weeks, and I’ve found it soft, light and breathable. What’s more, it’s stayed wonderfully cool on the sticky summer nights we’ve had recently.
The bedding has also washed brilliantly. Nick and Jo send a free care kit with every order, including woollen balls that you put in the tumble dryer with the bedding, and it’s remained beautifully soft. Best of all, the ‘Relaxed’ option needs no ironing whatsoever – always a plus in my book!
And the ultimate seal of approval? Loki our cat (who spends more time asleep than any other member of the household!) loves it…
To celebrate the launch of Bedfolk, Nick and Jo are offering my readers 15% off all bedding bundles and duvet sets until 6th July 2018. Just shop as normal and use the code ‘FOURWALLS’ when prompted at the checkout (DISCOUNT NOW EXPIRED).
Bedfolk kindly gifted a free bedding bundle for the purpose of this post, but as always all words and opinions are my own, and I would only recommend products that I would happily pay for in full.
