Spring-summer 2017 collection from &tradition

January 24, 2017

Spring-summer 2017 collection from &tradition | These Four Walls blog

I have another new-season collection from Scandinavia to share with you today, this time from Danish brand &tradition, which works with a range of designers to produce striking yet timeless pieces.

Its new additions for 2017 include a lounge chair for the ‘Catch’ seating series, first created in 2015 by Spanish designer Jaime Hayon. I love its gently playful shape, which is supposed to evoke a friend with arms outstretched ready to wrap you in a big hug. In Hayon’s own words, it’s ‘inviting to look at’, ‘almost irresistible to sit in’ and ‘happy to welcome you’.

Other ranges being extended for the new year are Space Copenhagen’s ‘Fly’ series of sofas and chairs, and Sami Kallio’s ‘In Between’ collection of dining tables and chairs (both on display in the beautiful Suffolk farmhouse which I featured a couple of weeks ago). The former now includes a bench-style ‘lounge table’, while the latter (whose cut-out shapes explore the relationship between positive and negative space) has been joined by a bar stool in a range of sizes.

There are also two brand-new lighting designs: the ‘Fornell’ pendant by Stockholm-based Andreas Bozarth Fornell, and the ‘Working Title’ desk lamp by Finnish designer Harry Koskinen. Contemporary reworkings of traditional strip lights and industrial lamps, they’re both designed to be as functional as possible, providing ambient and task lighting without detracting from their surroundings. In addition, Space Copenhagen’s popular ‘Copenhagen’ pendant lamp has been given an update for 2017, with a new combination of matt opal glass and darkened brass fittings.

Most of the new-season images released by &tradition also feature existing products which have quickly become design classics. They include Jaime Hayon’s ‘Palette’ series of desks and tables and his Japanese-inspired ‘Formakami’ paper shades, Studio Vit’s sleek and understated ‘Marble’ lights, and Verner Panton’s iconic ‘Flowerpot’ lamp. My personal favourites are Luca Nichetto’s ‘Cloud’ sofa, armchair and pouf, which blend Scandinavian and Italian design tradition – the simplicity and defined shape of the former, with the decadent, plumped-up pillows of the latter. They look as sink-into comfy as their name suggests, and I’ve been coveting them for ages.

Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist then so I'm using our anniversary as an excuse to share some of my favourite wedding photos.

I have so many happy memories from the day, but what I remember the most is all the laughter. And the funniest best men's (Chris had four!) speech I've ever heard. I wish we'd had a videographer just to capture that.

Anyway, thanks @small_round_things for the last eight years - and for the 13 before we actually got around to tying the knot!

I now have this design in three different colourways around the house, and this is definitely my favourite to date!

I've been a fan of their sustainable bamboo kitchens and furniture for a long time, so this was a real treat. And the space itself is full of the time-worn textures and beautiful details that always catch my eye.
