Today I’m sharing more new-season interiors news, this time from a brand whose launches I always look forward to seeing: Ferm Living.
Over the past few years the Danish company has developed a focus on creating homes that are sanctuaries – sanctuaries where we can be ourselves, relax and enjoy all life’s moments, big or small. It’s an ethos that very much aligns with my own, and its latest collection is my idea of elegant, timeless and relaxed style. In a bit of a departure for Ferm Living, it wasn’t styled and photographed in its Copenhagen show apartment but at a beautiful Mediterranean villa compete with stone walls and soaring arches – the perfect setting for a range that’s all about earthy tones, honest materials, nature-inspired shapes and strong, sculptural lines.
Many of the new designs embrace the concept of ‘low living’, bringing you closer to the ground and inviting you to lean back, relax and reconnect with your surroundings. Among them is the beanbag-like ‘Catena’ sofa series, which consists of six individual modules that can be combined in multiple ways. They’re made from a durable microcellular foam and come in a variety of fabrics and colours, with eye-catching top-stitched seams and gentle curves.
Other low-slung pieces include a shorter version of Ferm Living’s now-iconic plant box, the stunning ‘Mineral’ coffee table, which offsets a sleek glass top with raw stone blocks, and the minimalist ‘Kona’ daybed. The latter takes its name from the Japanese word for corner and can be used as seating or as an overnight bed for guests. It has a raised back panel that’s ideal for resting against and can be paired with the matching ‘Kona’ side table, which neatly slots beneath the frame.
Also new is the ‘Bevel’ series, a family of versatile solid-oak tables and benches that mix sculpted legs with rounded tops, and the ‘Sector’ shelving system – a modern take on classic mid-century units, with a study simplicity and a choice between natural oak veneer or black-stained ash veneer.
New lighting comes in the form of the ‘Vuelta’ lamp, which was inspired by ancient architectural columns and features opal glass with a grooved surface. There’s also a new pale-beige colour option for the elegant ‘Arum’ lighting series, which was first launched last year.
Accessories-wise, my eye was drawn straight to two new ranges that showcase soft, organic forms: the semi-matte ‘Flow’ tableware, and a series of metallic hooks and sculptural objects created by jewellery designer Helena Rohner. I also love the look of the understated ‘Calm’ cushions, with their subtle beige and charcoal patterns, and the speckled stoneware ‘Bon’ bathroom accessories.
My favourite of all the just-launched pieces, though, is the ‘Desert’ chair, whose woven seat is made from recycled plastic bottles. It’s suitable for indoor and outdoor use and is available in four different designs, all of which combine soft, sandy tones with geometric patterns. It’s great to see Ferm Living adding more sustainable products to its range after the success of its existing recycled-plastic rugs and cushions, and I hope there are others to come in future years.
All in all, a very inspiring collection!
