New design finds | January 2025

January 13, 2025

It's time for my first monthly round-up of minimalist design finds of 2025, and I have some wonderful things to share with you today. There are newly launched home textiles, ceramics, lamps and furniture pieces, all with beautiful pared-back style and a perfect balance between function and form. And Japanese and Scandinavian influences feature strongly . . .

Highlights of 3 Days of Design 2024 | The best of the rest – part 1

July 23, 2024

I've already shared a detailed look at some of my top picks from this year's 3 Days of Design, and today I'm turning my attention to the other exhibitions that caught my eye. They were a little smaller or more conceptual than the ones I've featured so far, so I didn't take enough photos to turn them into posts of their own, but they were no less interesting for it . . .

Sjöparken – a tranquil Swedish retreat with minimalist design & natural influences

January 8, 2024

Happy New Year! I hope you're having a good January so far. It's a gloomy, rain-soaked day here in Bristol, so for my first post of 2024 I'm sharing a bit of escapism with a peek at Sjöparken - a beautiful new hotel concept with calming, minimalist design, set amid the undulating fields of Ästad Vineyard in Halland, western Sweden . . .

Highlights of 3 Days of Design 2023 | Japandi style

June 30, 2023

I'm continuing my round-up of highlights from 3 Days of Design with a look at two brands that embody the concept of 'Japandi' - that is, a fusion between Japanese and Scandinavian style. There's a clear affinity between Japanese and Scandinavian design, with both sharing a focus on clean lines, natural materials and balancing form and function . . .

Minimalism meets traditional crafts at Milan Design Week exhibition ‘Still Life – The Art of Living’

April 27, 2023

Last week was Milan Design Week, which sees brands, designers and retailers from across the world descend on the Italian city for the vast Salone del Mobile trade fair and various other events. I wasn't able to go myself, but I enjoyed soaking up the interiors inspiration from afar - and one of the installations that instantly caught my attention when the press images landed in my inbox was 'Still . . .

Home tour | A minimalist Japandi apartment in Stockholm

Home tour - a minimalist Japandi apartment in Stockholm | These Four Walls blog

I'm always drawn to interiors that are simple and pared back, yet also cosy and inviting - and this Stockholm apartment is another wonderful example. It's also a great illustration of 'Japandi' style, which blends design influences from Scandinavia and Japan to create schemes that are minimalist, functional and intentional, with an appealing mix of natural materials and clean lines . . .

Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist then so I'm using our anniversary as an excuse to share some of my favourite wedding photos.

I have so many happy memories from the day, but what I remember the most is all the laughter. And the funniest best men's (Chris had four!) speech I've ever heard. I wish we'd had a videographer just to capture that.

Anyway, thanks @small_round_things for the last eight years - and for the 13 before we actually got around to tying the knot!

Back on the grid after more than two weeks. Thanks Back on the grid after more than two weeks. Thanks to everyone who sent messages checking I was OK - I just lost my Instagram mojo and needed a bit of a break. Anyway, here are some phone-camera snippets of life lately...

I now have this design in three different colourways around the house, and this is definitely my favourite to date!

A few weeks ago I travelled to Drammen in Norway f A few weeks ago I travelled to Drammen in Norway for the big project I'm working on (more on that soon), and while I was there I had a look around @askogeng's workshop. I've been a fan of their sustainable bamboo kitchens and furniture for a long time, so this was a real treat. And the space itself is full of the time-worn textures and beautiful details that always catch my eye.
