Review | The ‘Mesmerine’ breakfast collection from Kenwood

Review - the ‘Mesmerine’ breakfast collection from Kenwood | These Four Walls blog

[Advertisement – this is a paid collaboration with Kenwood, but all words and opinions are my own] Small kitchen appliances such as toasters and kettles are so often an afterthought – something we choose based purely on functionality, with little regard to aesthetics. I always think it’s such a shame, as they’re items that are normally left out on display for all to see . . .

Workspace inspiration (and new designs) from Muuto's Copenhagen HQ | These Four Walls blog

I'm a firm believer that our surroundings can have a huge impact on our mental and physical wellbeing, particularly when it comes to our workspace - after all, it's where we spend a significant portion of our lives. After two years of freelancing I now have a good sense of my own work rhythms and routines, and I'm in the middle of rejigging my little home office . . .

Well, summer has flown by and September is here already - and with it comes a host of new-season launches. I've already covered some of my favourite autumn-winter collections and there are several more to come over the next few weeks, but today I want to round up some other interesting bits and bobs that have caught my eye . . .

Home tour - a small but stylish attic apartment in Gothenburg | These Four Walls blog

The subject of today's home tour is a tiny attic apartment in the Swedish city of Gothenburg. It's only 34sqm in size, but it's a great example of how clever design tricks can turn even the smallest of spaces into stylish and practical places to live . . .

Autumn-winter inspiration from Ferm Living | These Four Walls blog

I have another dose of new-season interiors inspiration for you today and it's from a brand whose collections I always look forward to seeing: Ferm Living. Styled and photographed partly in its Copenhagen show apartment and partly in a location house, the Danish company's latest offering caught my eye because of the way it combines neutral hues with pops of rich colour . . .

The New Works ‘Kizu’ table lamp styled two ways

The New Works 'Kizu' table lamp styled two ways | These Four Walls blog

[Advertisement - this post features a gifted item, but all words and opinions are my own] I always used to consider lighting a bit of an afterthought - the last bit of decor to be purchased after I'd finished everything else, and normally as cheaply as possible. Nowadays, I appreciate the importance of good lighting and see it as an integral part of an interior scheme . . .

Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist then so I'm using our anniversary as an excuse to share some of my favourite wedding photos.

I have so many happy memories from the day, but what I remember the most is all the laughter. And the funniest best men's (Chris had four!) speech I've ever heard. I wish we'd had a videographer just to capture that.

Anyway, thanks @small_round_things for the last eight years - and for the 13 before we actually got around to tying the knot!

Back on the grid after more than two weeks. Thanks Back on the grid after more than two weeks. Thanks to everyone who sent messages checking I was OK - I just lost my Instagram mojo and needed a bit of a break. Anyway, here are some phone-camera snippets of life lately...

1. Guard cat on duty while I work
2. Evening light hitting the last of the Japanese quince blossom in the garden
3. Country drives
4. Coming across 17th-century graffiti while house-hunting
5 & 6. A lazy Sunday stroll on Clevedon Pier, on one of those hazy days where the sea and sky seem to merge into one
7. Keeping drooping spring blooms going for as long as possible

I now have this design in three different colourways around the house, and this is definitely my favourite to date!

A few weeks ago I travelled to Drammen in Norway f A few weeks ago I travelled to Drammen in Norway for the big project I'm working on (more on that soon), and while I was there I had a look around @askogeng's workshop. I've been a fan of their sustainable bamboo kitchens and furniture for a long time, so this was a real treat. And the space itself is full of the time-worn textures and beautiful details that always catch my eye.
