My obsession with grey and white decor will be pretty obvious to anyone who spends more than a couple of seconds browsing this blog (you can read more about the reasons behind it here). But even though I prefer to fill my own home with neutral shades, I love seeing how colour and pattern are used in other spaces. And one of my favourite examples is ‘The Home’ – the beautiful Copenhagen show apartment of Danish brand Ferm Living.
You’ll have seen a few peeks inside ‘The Home’ in previous posts as it’s where Ferm styles many of the press images for its new-season collections, but I couldn’t resist popping in for a full tour during my visit to Copenhagen last week. And I certainly wasn’t disappointed!
Set in a period property overlooking the central square of Amagertorv, it’s decorated entirely with furniture, lighting, wallpaper and accessories from Ferm’s range. What’s more, it’s a masterclass in how to incorporate rich hues into an interior without making it feel overbearing or cluttered.
The first room you enter is the lounge, which has moody blue-grey walls topped by a dark burgundy ceiling. It’s a bold look and it certainly wouldn’t suit smaller spaces, but here it works perfectly, creating a striking yet elegant atmosphere. I loved how the walls showcase the vibrant greens and blues of the ‘Turn’ sofa and daybed, and I was very taken by the light fittings, which match the ceiling and look as if they’ve grown out of the fabric of the building.
Just as dramatic is the kitchen, which features forest-green units and walls offset by sparkling brass and agate fittings. Green is a huge trend this year and it’s one of the few colours I could happily bring into my own home (it’s very calming), so it was great to see it being embraced here. One corner of the room has been kept white and makes the perfect backdrop for a hanging rail strung with pots and pans; there’s also a tall ‘Punctual’ shelving unit twisted with ivy – a great way to show off treasured tableware (in this case, Ferm’s ‘Ripple’ glasses and ‘Neu’ crockery).
The other rooms are lighter but no less eye-catching. In the bedroom, burgundy and blue striped wallpaper is paired with pale salmon pinks and earthy terracottas, creating a warm, inviting feel that’s ideal for relaxation. The space also features two of my favourite Ferm pieces: its iconic plant box, here used as a stand for magazines and vases, and its white marble coffee table (which I’m currently coveting for my living-room makeover).
The dining room also incorporates stripes, this time a narrow mustard and white design that contrasts beautifully with the dark green ‘Mingle’ table and ‘Herman’ chairs. And I have to mention the oversized eucalyptus display – an easy yet stunning idea for a centrepiece.
There’s also a home office with smart burgundy paneling and a stunning ‘Haze’ glass-fronted cabinet (another of my top Ferm picks), plus a children’s room brimming with pieces from Ferm’s KIDS’ collection. I may be 34, but I certainly wouldn’t mind having a few of those snuggly cushions and quirky fruit-shaped knits for myself…
Sadly ‘The Home’ isn’t open to the public, so it was a real treat to spend a morning soaking up so much design inspiration. And it gets a revamp every season to reflect the latest interior trends, so I hope to visit again in the future and see it in its next incarnation.

P.S. I’ve teamed up with independent lifestyle store Cloudberry Living, which stocks a wonderful range of Scandinavian design, to give away a Ferm Living ‘Bau’ watering can worth £49. Just head over to Instagram to enter…

Such an inspirating home and you have picked some of our favourite pieces too! It really does show how to add colour to a scheme without over powering and cluttering too!
Abi says
Thanks Alicia! The use of colour and pattern there really is beautiful, and it gave me plenty of ideas.

Really like the way the daybed is set opposite the sofa in the second shot. Daybeds seem to be becoming more and more popular as a piece of occasional furniture – I’m tempted, although not sure how much use practically it would get, versus simply having a second sofa.

I know what you mean – they look so elegant, but perhaps not the most practical. I like the idea of having both though, so you can sit or lie!

Oh my world!!! What a place! I think I’ll be staring at those gorge images all evening now x
Abi says
So glad you like the images! It’s the most inspiring apartment. I wanted to move in! 😉

Besides the obvious: this home is gorgeous, can we also talk about your photographic compositions Abi? Fantastic photos! Especially liked the photos with the half opened doors in them!
Abi says
Thanks so much Jenny! I had so much fun photographing this place. Although the bright sunlight made it a bit tricky! It’s an incredible place.

A beautiful home. I love the idea of seeing things in situ like this rather than online or in the store. It’s so inspiring.
Abi says
Being able to see things in person makes all the difference, doesn’t it? And this place has so many ideas that could be recreated elsewhere.

Abi what amazing spaces full of originality and creativity. I love the painted ceiling and pendant lights. And the moody green kitchen. Your images are wonderful too x
Abi says
Thanks so much Donna! The whole space is full of interesting ideas. I wouldn’t have thought the dark ceiling would work, for example, but it really does! x

I wish I’d seen it and I want it all….. I’m particularly smitten with the terracotta hues here. Is the wallpaper from Ferm too? It was pretty spectacular. Fantastic photography as always
Abi says
Thanks Mary! Yep the wallpaper is from Ferm Living too. I agree with you on the terracottas – they work so well.

I could just move right in. That green kitchen is just perfect in every way. I’m a big fan of green so I could definitely live with that. What on earth is that snake like plant? I’ve never seen a plant like that before and now I want one. Great photos.
Abi says
Totally agree with you about the kitchen – it really works. No idea about the plant I’m afraid. I’ve never seen one like it ether – it looks a bit like an alien from space!

Hi Abi, Your images are beautiful, I want to live here! I am so in love with terracotta at the minute, I wondered if you knew the fabric used on the terracotta sofa and if it is exclusive to Ferm Living? As I’ve been looked everywhere for that exact shade! Any advice is much appreciated, thank you xx
Abi says
Thanks so much for the kind words! It’s such a beautiful space – I had full-on house envy! Yes the sofa fabric is Ferm Living. I’ll have a think about others that might be similar xx

I’d love to know where I can get these floors?! I noticed that there are no cuts & the floors are wall to wall solid boards, how do I find that, normal flooring companies don’t have that? Thank you so much everything is so beautiful!
Abi says
Do you mean the floor in the kitchen? The other rooms all have the original floorboards, I think.
