Well, it’s finally here: that magical time of sparkling candles in misted windows, bulging stockings by crackling fires, the scent of mulled wine and pine needles wafting through the house… I may be in my 30s with no little ones around, but I can’t help getting swept up in the childlike wonder of Christmas.
Tonight Chris and I will mark the midwinter solstice with a cosy meal, celebrating the darkness and the promise of the returning light; tomorrow, we’ll jump in the car and head up to my parents’ house in Derbyshire for a few lazy, care-free festive days. I know the unseasonably warm UK weather (the trees in our garden are already beginning to blossom) means we won’t be treated to the beautiful snowy scenes that greeted us last year, but I’m holding out a flicker of hope for long walks through frosty fields, followed by fireside feasting and laughter.
I’m taking a short break from blogging while I’m away, but I’ll be back very soon with more interiors, travel and lifestyle inspiration, including a couple of exciting new collaborations. In the meantime, I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who has read, supported and encouraged These Four Walls in 2015; this year has been busy, exciting, scary and inspiring in equal measure, and I can’t wait to see what 2016 brings.
I hope you all have a very merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year, wherever you are and however you’re celebrating.

P.S. I’ve created a ‘Winter’ Pinterest board for those who, like me, are missing the cold at this time of year…
