IKEA has just announced a raft of new limited-edition collections and I wanted to end the week by sharing a few images of my favourite: the beautiful ‘VIKTIGT’ range, created by renowned glass designer and ceramicist Ingegerd Råman. It follows on from successful IKEA collaborations with other famous names – including Isla Crawford’s cork-based ‘SINNERLIG’ collection, which caused huge excitement when it launched last year – and I’m sure it will prove very popular.
The ‘VIKTIGT’ range is a fantastic fusion of simple Asian and Scandinavian shapes, with a focus on natural fibres such as bamboo, rattan, seagrass and water hyacinth. Ingegerd travelled to Vietnam to learn how to work with these traditional materials, and many of the resulting items are handmade for IKEA by Vietnamese craftspeople.
The collection encompasses chairs, stools, storage baskets, glassware, hanging planters, black and white dinner sets and more – and, as you’d except from IKEA, it’s all affordable and accessible. My favourite piece is the low-hanging bamboo pendant lamp, whose conical shape reminds me of Vietnamese nón lá hats. I can’t wait to treat myself to one when the collection launches in selected stores in May, and I suspect a few of the ceramics will make their way into my trolley, too…
See IKEA’s website for more information on ‘VIKTIGT’ and other new collections.
