New minimalist design finds - December 2020 | These Four Walls blog

Is it just me, or has 2020 somehow stood still and flown by at the same time? Anyway, December is here already and I'm going to squeeze in one last round-up of design news before the year draws to a close. This month's selection features minimalist lighting, a just-launched Swedish homeware collaboration and a new twist on an iconic Danish chair . . .

How to make an asymmetrical Christmas wreath

How to make an asymmetrical Christmas wreath | These Four Walls blog

Making wreaths is one of my favourite things to do in the run-up to Christmas. There's something very mindful about getting stuck into seasonal crafts, and surrounding yourself with winter foliage is a guaranteed way to get in the festive spirit - especially if you pour yourself some wine and play some Christmas music at the same time! I particularly love creating asymmetrical wreaths . . .

Timeless Nordic Christmas decorations from All White Christmas | These Four Walls blog

I love Christmas and I love timeless, pared-back style, but the two don't often go hand in hand. That's why I was delighted to come across All White Christmas - a new webstore stocking a beautifully curated selection of Nordic-inspired decorations, as well as understated cards, gifts and other accessories for the festive season and beyond . . .

Adding some festive sparkle with Georg Jensen’s 2020 ‘Christmas Collectibles’

November 24, 2020

Adding some festive sparkle with Georg Jensen's 2020 'Christmas Collectibles' | These Four Walls blog

[Advertisement - this is a paid partnership with Georg Jensen, but all words and opinions are my own] I generally opt for a pared-back look at Christmas, with lots of evergreen foliage and a few simple decorations. But I can never resist adding a bit of sparkle, and Georg Jensen's annual 'Christmas Collectibles' are always my go-to source of festive magic . . .

A soft, minimalist beige bedroom: mood board & plans | These Four Walls blog

Blocking up the door to our ensuite and opening a new one off the landing has not only enabled us to create a proper upstairs bathroom, it's also given us scope to transform our long-neglected master bedroom into the soothing sanctuary we've always dreamt of. We've already made a start on it and I hope to show you the results soon, but first I want to share a look at our plans . . .

How to create a cosy outdoor haven this winter

How to create a cosy outdoor haven this winter | These Four Walls blog

It's that time of year when I'd normally be putting the garden furniture away for winter, but it's 2020 so of course things are a little different. Ongoing restrictions mean I'm desperate to spend as much time outside as possible, and I'm very aware that alfresco catch-ups may well end up being the only way to see friends and family over the coming months . . .

Home tour | A minimalist getaway on the Swedish coast

Home tour - a minimalist getaway on the Swedish coast | These Four Walls blog

In Monday's post I talked about how much I love the Bohuslän Archipelago to the north of Gothenburg, and just as I pressed 'publish' an email dropped into my inbox with details of a stunning new house hidden along its rocky shoreline. It was just a coincidence, of course, but it only seemed fitting that it should form the focus of my latest home tour! . . .

Scandinavian dreaming with Skandinavisk's new Eau de Toilette collection | These Four Walls blog

[Advertisement - this is a paid collaboration with Skandinavisk, but all words and opinions are my own] Oh how I long to head off to a little island somewhere in one of Scandanavia's many beautiful archipelagos... Sadly not possible at the moment, of course, so until I can travel again I'll have to content myself with a bit of daydreaming . . .

A cosy stay at Cynefin Retreats, Herefordshire

A cosy stay at Cynefin Retreats, Herefordshire | These Four Walls blog

Last week I shared a few tips on what to see and do in the beautiful county of Herefordshire, so for the second post from our recent trip I thought I'd put together a review of where we stayed: Cynefin Retreats. I know it seems a little odd to be publishing this just as travel restrictions are reintroduced across England, but I decided to go ahead anyway . . .

I'm so excited to reveal what @tiffanygrantriley a I'm so excited to reveal what @tiffanygrantriley and I have been working on for the past few months: a new book!

Called Bring The Outside In, it explores how to harness the wellbeing-enhancing power of biophilic design (design that reconnects you with nature) in your own home. It's packed with clear, practical advice, plus peeks inside 12 beautiful real-life homes that demonstrate biophilic design in action in a wide range of settings, from city apartments to rural farmhouses.

I feel incredibly proud to have written one book, let alone two, and this one was extra-special for two reasons. Firstly, it's a topic that I've long been fascinated by and one that combines two of my passions, interior design and nature. And secondly, I was lucky enough to work on it with a friend. We had so much fun travelling around Europe capturing the homes featured (some very brief glimpses to whet your appetite here!) and we'll share some behind-the-scenes snippets soon.

Bring The Outside In will be published by @rylandpetersandsmall on 14th October and is available to pre-order now - just follow the link in my bio.

I've spent many happy times there over the years as one of my closest friends lives there, but she's about to move house. Some photos of the gorgeous @a.__gallery, which I Some photos of the gorgeous @a.__gallery, which I visited on a recent trip to the Netherlands. Isn't it beautiful? Calm, textural and layered, with handmade pieces by an array of independent artists and artisans.

I've also interviewed Holly, founder of the gallery and interior design studio @avenue.design.studio, on my blog. I've always admired the elegant, timeless spaces she creates, and the way she reflects the architectural context of each setting. I first met her in person last year, when I featured her own home in my book, and I've since worked with her on another exciting project that I can't wait to share soon...

I missed the opening event for this last year, so it was great to finally have a look around in person. The light is stunning, as is GUBI's selection of contemporary and classic designs - including the sculptural and futuristic F300 lounge chair, first designed by Pierre Paulin in the 1960s and recently relaunched.

Which room or corner is your favourite...?
