New furniture & homeware finds | September 2016

'Dahl' pendant light from Northern Lighting | New furniture and homeware finds - September 2016 | These Four Walls blog

The flood of fantastic new-season product launches shows no sign of abating. Here’s a round-up of some of my favourites from the past few weeks…

New designs from Normann Copenhagen

Danish brand Normann Copenhagen used the recent Maison & Objet furniture fair in Paris to release a raft of new designs, covering everything from lighting to kitchen accessories. My favourites are the ‘Horizon’ wall mirror and shelf, which was created by design duo kaschkasch to blend form and functionality; the ‘Journal’ desk, which combines a coloured top with a light steel frame; and Daniel Debiasi and Federico Sandri’s ‘Stage’ floor lamp, which is a contemporary take on classic film-production lighting. I also love the soft contours and simple shapes of the ‘Bliss’ porcelain tea service, conceived by Italian designer Odo Fioravanti.

A sophisticated collection from Soak & Sleep

British company Soak & Sleep, whose beautiful bedding has appeared in previous posts, is launching a new, more grown-up collection for autumn-winter 2016. There are additions to its furniture range, which debuted last year, as well as trend-led bedding and home accessories in a variety of styles and materials. Stand-outs for me include the maple-wood ‘Cranbrook’ designs, which pair a rich patina with striking brass feet (and happen to share a name with the street I used to live on!); the marble, resin and bamboo bathroom accessories; and the Scandi-inspired ‘Clerkenwell’ line.

Eye-catching additions at Northern Lighting

Oslo-based Northern Lighting, which combines sleek Scandinavian lines with soft, moody light, has added several new products to its range. Among them are the mouth-blown ‘Dahl’ glass pendant, first created by Norwegian designer Birger Dahl in 1956 and relaunched this autumn to mark his 100th birthday; the ‘Poppy’ series of oil lamps, which were inspired by fields of tall poppies and come in various sizes and colours; and the strikingly simple ‘Drift’ candleholders, which echo floating Arctic sea ice. The brand has also updated its popular ‘Acorn’ pendant with beautiful walnut accents.

A ‘Mini’ version of Verner Panton’s Panthella lamp

More lighting news comes from Louis Poulsen, which has released a new ‘Mini’ version of the iconic Panthella lamp designed by Verner Panton in 1971. It’s the perfect size for shelves and bedside tables, and comes in black, white, opal, and eight eye-catching shades drawn from the ‘Light and Colour’ exhibition which Panton created shortly before his death in 1998. It’s available in stores from this month, and you can find a full list of stockists here.

Totem Road arrives in the UK

Sustainable furniture from Australian brand Totem Road is now available in the UK for the first time, via selected retail partners and www.totemroad.com. Totem’s designs pair ethically sourced natural materials with mid-century modern influences, creating a look that’s relaxed yet sleek. I’m a particular fan of the marble and oak tables, the tree-stump stools and the minimalist console tables and benches.

Snaps from a lovely long weekend in leafy Richmond Snaps from a lovely long weekend in leafy Richmond, West London. I've spent many happy times there over the years as one of my closest friends lives there, but she's about to move house. So, Chris and I made the most of our last visit before she relocates - and the weather was certainly kind to us!

Some photos of the gorgeous @a.__gallery, which I Some photos of the gorgeous @a.__gallery, which I visited on a recent trip to the Netherlands. Isn't it beautiful? Calm, textural and layered, with handmade pieces by an array of independent artists and artisans.

I've also interviewed Holly, founder of the gallery and interior design studio @avenue.design.studio, on my blog. I've always admired the elegant, timeless spaces she creates, and the way she reflects the architectural context of each setting. I first met her in person last year, when I featured her own home in my book, and I've since worked with her on another exciting project that I can't wait to share soon...

I missed the opening event for this last year, so it was great to finally have a look around in person. The light is stunning, as is GUBI's selection of contemporary and classic designs - including the sculptural and futuristic F300 lounge chair, first designed by Pierre Paulin in the 1960s and recently relaunched.

Which room or corner is your favourite...?

Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist Eight years ago today. Carousel posts didn't exist then so I'm using our anniversary as an excuse to share some of my favourite wedding photos.

I have so many happy memories from the day, but what I remember the most is all the laughter. And the funniest best men's (Chris had four!) speech I've ever heard. I wish we'd had a videographer just to capture that.

Anyway, thanks @small_round_things for the last eight years - and for the 13 before we actually got around to tying the knot!
